Location: USDA Forest Service, Southern Research Station, Asheville, NC
Department: Research and Development
Work Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM)

Job Summary:

The Drafter/CAD Operator IV provides technical drafting and design support to the engineering group within the USDA Forest Service’s Research and Development division. This role involves creating and maintaining CAD drawings, Revit models, geospatial maps, and infrastructure databases to support facility maintenance and project planning.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop accurate CAD drawings and Revit models for infrastructure projects.
• Maintain and back up engineering databases.
• Document and archive existing engineering records.
• Collect, analyze, and report infrastructure data.
• Communicate technical requirements to diverse stakeholders.
• Implement safety and operational standards for facilities.
• Ensure compliance with federal and agency standards.

Qualifications:

• Proven expertise in CAD and AutoDesk software.
• Familiarity with AutoDesk Revit.
• Proficiency in computer operations and custom software applications.
• Fluency in English.
• Familiarity with agency websites and systems.

Training Requirements:

• Annual completion of USDA-mandated courses (e.g., Unconscious Bias, Anti-Harassment, Information Security Awareness, Records Management, Section 508).

Security Requirements:

• Must obtain LincPass and pass a federal background check.
• Compliance with USDA and Forest Service security protocols.
