Job Details: 

SmartStart Education seeks a Special Education Teacher's Aide to work with middle school students at a school located in Indianapolis, INThe position begins on September 2, 2025 and ends on January 30, 2026. The schedule will be Monday - Friday, from 7:30am until 4:00pm. 

  • Maintaining all special education documentation and timelines for case conferences in accordance with state and federal requirements.
  • Ensuring the delivery of services outlined in individual education plans for students with disabilities in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use the information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, schedule case conferences, promptly return phone calls and answer emails, and establish ongoing communication with parents.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities
  • Ability and willingness to work collaboratively; maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships
  • Other duties assigned.

Qualifications

  • Possession of an Associate's Degree or equivalent from an accredited institution in any field is mandatory. ***Please note that applications with anticipated graduation dates will not be considered.  
  • Demonstrated experience of at least 6 months in teaching, tutoring, coaching or advising youth, either within a school environment or another learning and development setting.  
  • Comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges faced by urban students, schools, and communities, encompassing racial disparity, socio-economic disparity, and cultural disparity.  
  • Display of genuine passion and unwavering commitment towards fostering the success of students.  
  • Exemplary punctuality, ensuring timely attendance and adherence to established schedules.  
  • Proficiency in communication skills, enabling effective and articulate interaction with students, colleagues, and interested parties.  
  • Ability to comfortably commute to the designated location.
