Summary
The Electrical & Instrumentation Supervisor leads a team of electricians, instrumentation repair technician(s) and Controls Engineer in the areas of safety, quality, and maintenance for all equipment to meet department and site goals. As a working Supervisor the successful candidate will have knowledge of electrical systems in a manufacturing environment. Other responsibilities include facilitating team meetings and training; identifying safety, environmental, quality & production issues; collaborating with the production team to maximize productivity and minimize cost and reduce waste; developing the skill set of associates and proactively addressing team issues or concerns.
Job Duties
Lead a team of electricians, instrumentation technicians, controls engineers and outside vendors to meet department and site goals in equipment and building safety, quality, and maintenance through:
- Ensuring the safety of all associates by identifying safety issues and taking measures to proactively address concerns.
- Driving an electrical safety culture based on NFPA 70E compliance.
- Actively leading and developing the electrical maintenance team to ensure effective communication across & between shifts and with the production teams.
- Effectively implementing training resources to build team capacity by enhancing and building the team's technical skills.
- Improve preventive and predictive maintenance methods and systems to reduce unscheduled downtime.
- Utilize reliable troubleshooting methods to ensure production volume, quality, and overall uptime goals are met.
- Apply electrical theory and related knowledge to test and modify developmental or operational electrical machinery, and electrical control equipment and circuitry in industrial environments.
- Oversees, the work of the Controls Engineer in testing, adjustment, or installation of electronic equipment such as industrial controls, circuit boards, and switches, and reprogramming PLC controls.
- Use computer-based programs to prioritize maintenance requests, manage maintenance inventory, and plan and schedule the weekly work for the electrical department.
- Research and procure necessary parts for repairs/upgrades.
- Ensure that the work environment is free of hazards and that employees are trained to perform work safely.
- Lead and conduct meetings in conjunction with the Maintenance Supervisor as required with employees and/or department staff to communicate changes or present production information.
Experience / Qualifications
- 5+ years working in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience managing a team in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of electrical and controls experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience in leading and ensuring compliance with safety initiatives, with the ability to lead a team to a high level of safety performance.
- Experience with HMI and VFD hardware
- Knowledge and experience with Allen Bradley PLC's, AC and DC drives and other industrial control components and devices
- Proficiency with Logix5000
- High level of proficiency with PLC programming and troubleshooting
- Ability to program and troubleshoot AC or DC power inverters/frequency drives.
- Proven expertise in preventative and predictive maintenance systems and methods
- Ability to read and understand electrical power and control system schematics and electrical/mechanical diagrams and drawings.
- Experience with level, pressure, temperature Instruments, and calibration
- Understand the use of a Hart 475 communicator.
- Ability to identify the root cause of problems and effectively initiate immediate corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
- Excellent communication skills, to include interpersonal, written, verbal, electronic, and technical writing & presentations.
- Proven track record of driving performance by building and maintaining positive relationships with associates through coaching, development and instilling a continuous improvement mind-set.
- Familiarity with the function and operation of mechanical hardware and/or packaging equipment or material handling equipment
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Strong work ethic, good judgment, and decision-making skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative and team-based environment.
- Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, other Windows-based programs, internet, and computer-based maintenance programs (iMaint, or JD Edwards)
- Willing and able to accept calls during non-business hours, as needed.
- Willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including occasional weekends, when necessary
- Working knowledge of business and financial concepts
- Demonstrated results in achieving and sustaining business goals.

- Frequent exposure to mill environment—hot, dusty, humid, noisy
- Occasional long workdays and on-call. Some Travel may be required.
