Reporting to the Deputy Registrar (DR) and in collaboration with the Senior Legal Registries Specialist, the Senior Legal Registries Officer (Officer) assists with the final authorization of documents, supervision and training of Legal Registries Officers additional to assisting with administering the Corporate, Land Titles, Personal Property, Co-operatives, Societies and Securities Registries. The Officer efficiently collaborates with all internal branches including with the Registrar, Deputy Registrar, Superintendent, and the Senior Legal Registries Specialist to ensure the goals of the division are met.  The position will cover the duties of the Deputy Registrar in their absence and handle any scheduling, direct supervision, training, in conjunction with the Senior Legal Registries Specialist, and monitoring of the Legal Registries officers as well all contract and student staff. 

Responsibilities

The Officer will provide instructions and guidance to Legal Registries Officers with day-to-day task, questions, issues, and ensuring data is accurately entered in various systems, and maintaining existing data systems. Additional responsibilities include providing training and support to new hires and conduct ongoing training programs for existing staff to increase efficiency of day-to-day workload. The department receives incorporations of Nunavut business and registration, foreign corporations, partnerships and sole proprietorships and it is the Officers responsibility to review and classify these documents and assure their registrability within the Nunavut Corporate Laws. In the absence of the Deputy Registrar, the Officer will have final signing authority for all corporate and societies documents. This position involves communication with multiple external stakeholders such as Lawyers, Bankers, Financial Professionals, Investors, other Securities Commissions, other Government organizations, businesses and occasionally the general public.

Qualifications

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized diploma in Law, Commerce, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline plus two (2) years of experience in a corporate, land or securities regulatory environment and one (1) year supervisory experience is a requirement for this position.
