Summary:
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, treating, and preventing mental, emotional, substance abuse, and behavioral disorders with the use of medication, neuromodulation, and psychotherapy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts psychiatric assessment of symptoms, providing treatment for diagnosis, and prescribing appropriate therapy and/or medication.
- Oversee the prescribed medical care of patients which includes regular screenings for medical conditions and assessment of wellness and health management.
- Evaluate and oversee behavioral reactions to medications including side effects; adjusting as needed.
- Conducts brief therapy.
- Provides clinical supervision and oversight of the psychiatric services delivered by the Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- Collaborates with the Team Leader monitoring treatment and clinical supervision to the team.
- Collaborates with nurses in developing and implementing medication administration policies and procedures.
- Supervises non-medical team members on all aspects of psychiatric and non-psychiatric treatment and medications.
- Confers with patients’ relatives regarding illness and treatment.
- Regularly participates in daily team meetings and treatment planning meetings; attends daily team meetings in proportion to the time allocated on the team.
- Provides psychiatric back-up to the program after-hours and weekends.
- Ordering and reviewing any necessary labs associated with prescribed medications.
- Keeps medical records.
- Prepares psychiatric reports.
- Accurately document all billable encounters into Southeastern Integrated Care’s EMR (electronic medical record) system within 24 hours.
- All corrections will be entered within 24 hours of being notified.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not oversee staff.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience
- Completion of a residency training program in psychiatry.
- Two years of post-residency experience as a psychiatrist in a psychiatric facility required.
- Completion of an accredited graduate-level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program.
- Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (i.e., Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) in the state of North Carolina. Board certification if required by the Department.

- Demonstrated clinical competency. Effective leadership skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Demonstrated written and verbal communication and strong analytical skills. Effective interaction to ensure the successful care of patients in the clinical setting. Documentation in the medical record to substantiate accurate billing.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of general medicine and psychiatry; current developments in the field of psychiatry; hospital and clinic organization, management, and procedures.
- Ability to skillfully diagnose and treat patients with mental illness and substance abuse disorders.
- Ability to analyze situations and adopt an effective course of action.
- Ability to prepare records and reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to maintain objectivity and confidentiality.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Completion of an accredited graduate-level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program.
- Must be board eligible or certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
- Licensed to practice in NC and meet the requirements as specified in NCAC27G .0104(16).
- Copy of a valid, unrestricted NC Driver’s license, proof of insurance
