The Transition to Practice (TTP) Specialty Fellowship Program is designed for RN's who are looking to move into a new specialty.

The Transition to Practice (TTP) Residency Program is designed for New Graduate RN’s or RN’s with less than one year experience.

The following units are participating in this cohort of the ICU TTP Residency Program:

  • 7A Medical ICU - 2 positions available
  • 7C Neurosciences ICU - 2 positions available
  • 8C Trauma Surgical ICU - 2 positions available
  • 12K Cardiovascular ICU - 2 positions available

 

Function/Duties of Position:

The OHSU Clinical registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. The Clinical RN's care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics. The Clinical RN demonstrates the professional role obligations of scientist, leader, and knowledge transferor [Onsomble Model of the Professional Role™]. Professional accountability enriches the Clinical RN's engagement as a leader in promoting an inter-professional culture of collaborative decision-making, innovation, life-long learning, and teamwork. The Clinical RN exemplifies the principles of a Culture of Safety by committing to a Just Culture, a Reporting Culture, a Learning Culture, and an Engaged Informed Culture.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum requirements for all Nurses:

  • Associate or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) by 14 days before the start date. 
    • Associate Degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire 
  • Current unencumbered Oregon RN license by 1 week before the start date (no later than 1/20/2025)
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA).
    • BLS and ACLS must not expire during the TTP Residency Program.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.

Residency Specific Requirements:

  • Completion of 180 clinical hours of direct-patient care in an inpatient care area.
  • 96 clinical hours of direct-patient care in an adult intensive care unit during a senior practicum within 12-months of the current cohort start date required.
  • Must have at least 48 clinical hours of direct-patient care ICU before application can be submitted.
  • 144 clinical hours of direct-patient care in an adult intensive care unit is strongly preferred.

 

Specialty Fellowship Specific Requirements:

  • One year of current nursing experience in adult inpatient or Emergency Department care areas.
    • Previous OR experience cannot be considered.
Additional Details:

The intended start date is October 20, 2025 (external & organizational internal transfer)/ October 27, 2025 (ONA internal transfer). Please note this date may be adjusted based on operational needs. 

 

Length of Orientation

  • New Graduate Nurse: New to profession or with <1 year of experience:
    • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Residency Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for about 10-12 weeks depending on the care area with an employment service agreement.  
  • Experienced Nurse (Specialty Fellowship) with >1 year of experience:
    • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Learning Pathway or Orientation experience individualized to the candidate between 2-12 weeks. 

 

  • Vacations, paid or unpaid leave requests up to 18-weeks from the start date are not permitted. All other vacation, paid or unpaid leave requests are subject to compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between ONA and OHSU.
  • Preceptorship hours: Assigned based on preceptor team schedules during Monday-Sunday 0700-1930, or 1900-0730. Transition to hired shift is based on unit readiness and the completion of group-based sessions. 
  • Transition to hired shift may be delayed for a temporary reassignment due to individual development needs and skill mix of the employees on the unit or the hires shift at any given time.
