This position supports the Culinary Services team at Saint John’s University (SJU), which includes the Refectory dining center, Sexton Dining Commons, Events and Catering, and The Schu coffee shop. The role is primarily focused on food production and customer service at Sexton Dining Commons. Key responsibilities include setting up the service line at Sexton; assisting with the preparation and assembly of menu items for Sexton, The Schu, and Saint John’s Prep School; and supporting various aspects of dining service and operations across SJU Culinary Services.
This position is based on the SJU campus and requires regular, in-person availability Monday through Friday. Rotating weekend shifts are also required, as Culinary Services operate seven days a week.

The posted wage represents CSB and SJU's good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will be dependent upon several factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills, and may fall outside of the range indicated.
Position Duties
Assemble, produce, package, and label quality menu items for Sexton Dining Commons, The Schu, and Saint John’s Prep School. Items may include salads, wraps, sandwiches, hot entrées, and parfaits.
Set up service lines prior to opening each day to ensure readiness for meal service.
Stock and maintain assigned food stations with high-quality products; keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with sanitation standards.
Keep retail shelves and coolers clean, organized, and fully stocked throughout service hours.
Assist in training student workers and volunteers assigned to Sexton Dining.
Operate kitchen equipment safely and in accordance with all safety protocols.
Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines consistently.
Use proper lifting techniques and follow ergonomic best practices during physical tasks.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Previous experience in food service, catering, or food production.
Strong interpersonal skills; able to communicate in a friendly and professional manner with students, customers, and coworkers.
Ability to successfully complete required food safety training and certification.
Availability to work rotating shifts, including evenings and weekends, and occasional overtime as needed.
Demonstrated ability to project a positive, service-oriented image.
Willingness to learn, adapt, and maintain a high level of competence in assigned duties.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
Ability to tolerate temperature fluctuations.
Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs, and moving of the entire body, such as standing, walking, climbing, lifting, balancing, stooping, and handling of materials for extended periods of time.
Use of and exposure to products containing detergents, degreasers, and sanitizing solutions, with or without use of single use gloves
