Maverick exists to simplify homebuilding, specializing in insurance and warranty solutions delivered through a modern MGU model. We empower builders through advanced technology, deep industry knowledge, and a relentless focus on innovation, operational excellence, and scalable customer experiences.

Summary

We seek a Chief Underwriting Officer to lead and grow our Underwriting & Service functions with an executive mandate to drive transformative growth. This hands-on leader will be responsible for securing new delegated underwriting authority from carriers, originating and launching innovative programs, and owning the entire customer journey—from quote through underwriting, binding, and ongoing service. Leveraging technology and automation, you will ensure these functions are scalable, efficient, and deliver an outstanding customer experience. You will lead a results-driven culture, collaborating closely with the President, VP of Customer Success, and Manager of Product & Engineering to maximize Maverick’s impact in the market.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Negotiate & Secure Delegated Authority & Agreements:
Lead all efforts to identify, negotiate, and secure new delegated underwriting authority and appointments from carrier partners—including the structuring and finalization of all necessary agreements, terms, and commissions—to empower Maverick to launch innovative insurance programs.
  • Program Development & Product Launch:
Originate, design, and execute the launch of new insurance programs in partnership with carriers; own the product development lifecycle from idea to execution, ensuring programs meet market needs and drive Maverick’s strategic growth.
  • Carrier Relationships:
    • Proactively identify, develop, and formalize new and expanded carrier partnerships to increase Maverick’s access to leading insurance capacity.
    • Deepen existing carrier relationships and maintain regular engagement to uncover new opportunities and sustain mutual business growth.
  • Technology Innovation & Automation:
Drive continuous technology innovation and automation across underwriting and service operations through collaboration with the Manager of Product & Engineering; champion digital solutions that streamline workflows, eliminate manual tasks, and elevate the customer experience at scale.
  • Own End-to-End Customer Experience & Process Optimization:
Own the entire customer journey across underwriting and service via your VP of Customer Success, ensuring seamless transitions from initial quote to underwriting, policy binding, and ongoing support. Lead process improvements and automation initiatives to deliver a consistently outstanding and cost-effective service at scale.
  • Drive a Results-Oriented, High-Performance Culture:
Promote a results-oriented culture that rewards initiative, celebrates achievement, and swiftly addresses performance gaps to ensure the organization is staffed with best-in-class talent. Build your own KPIs and the dashboards and reports necessary to manage performance effectively alongside your VP of Customer Success.

Who You Are

  • Proven track record gaining delegated authority and building new carrier programs from scratch (not only maintaining or inheriting others’ work).
  • Strong commercial negotiation skills for programs, authority, and commissions.
  • Established, trusted network within carrier and reinsurance markets.
  • Hands-on, builder-doer mentality—personally drives market entry, launches, and relationship development.
  • Experienced leader of both underwriting and (ideally) customer-facing service/support functions, with the ability to set expectations and lead through strong direct reports.
  • Effective collaborator across technology, operations, and service functions; technology-oriented mindset with a focus on scalable process design and delivery.
  • Track record of building and leading high-performance teams, driving accountability, and setting ambitious standards for excellence in both underwriting and service.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced credentials (MBA, CPCU, etc.) are a plus.

Why Maverick?

Shape Maverick’s next phase of growth: build new product lines and authority with robust support in service operations and technology. Take ownership of a technology-enabled, scalable customer experience, lead empowered teams, make a market impact, and help define industry standards in homebuilding insurance.
