About the Department


Supervisory, technical and administrative work in the examination, security and tracking of plans.        

Position Duties


The following duties are normal for this position.  The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.  

Supervises, trains and assists Permit Clerks, Plans Processors and Plans Coordinator Assistants in the processing of plans and issuing of permits.

Reviews work, assists with performance reviews, and advises supervisor regarding disciplinary problems.  

Approves employee leave, ensures coverage is met for all positions and provides back up when needed.

Monitors the tracking and examining of plans.  Ensures that all required approvals are acquired and maintains the security of plans.

Coordinates plans processing for large construction projects.

Coordinates plans processing functions between the Building trades, Planning & Zoning staff, the public, and other City Departments.

Calculates fees and prepares documents for issuance of permits.

Prepares and verifies documentation required for the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy and Certificates of Completion. 

May assist administration with special projects.

Handles complaints from the public; investigates problems, and exercises independent judgment to resolve issues.

Prepares and maintains reports, records and correspondence concerning permitting activity.

In conjunction with other staff, maintains Division records.

Verifies responses to customers’ inquiries through email, telephone, mail or in person.

Coordinates permitting records’ monthly maintenance.

Verifies various reports for outside agencies and other City departments.  Researches information and compiles data.

May serve as the Information Technology Department liaison.

Performs other related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications


BA or BS degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or related field preferred.

Three (3) years’ experience as a Plans Processor or other relevant experience such as examining and processing construction plans and related field work in architectural, structural, plumbing, mechanical or electrical disciplines.


Supervisory experience preferred.


A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.


Valid Florida Driver's License.
