The HIM ROI Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of scanning patient medical records into the electronic record.
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Is responsible for the Release of Information (ROI) requests for patient medical records. Determines records to be released by reviewing requestor information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Receives, places and transfer calls as appropriate. Greets visitors.
- Assist with patients calling for verbal authorization forms and send records per their request.
- Processes continuing of care records and patient requests in a timely manner.
- Scans and logs medical record requests into ROI database.
- Assist with daily mail distribution.
- Applies state and federal rules as they pertain to release of protected health information. Comply with all HIPAA policies and confidentiality rules.
- Properly disposes of scanned ROI requests after 30 days in accordance with department and organization policy.
- Routinely meets department productivity standards and completes productivity reports as required.
- Maintains accuracy standard of 98% or higher for releasing of medical records.
- Engages in daily problem-solving; takes the initiative to find solutions to problems; utilizes a team approach to problem-solving; when warranted, uses an independent approach.
Requirements for this position include:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- One year of health care related experience required
- RHIT or RHIA preferred
