POSITION DESCRIPTION
To build a Greater Miami where everyone can thrive, The Miami Foundation believes it is imperative that all Miamians have access to knowledge and information about their community so that they have an opportunity to play a role in addressing Greater Miami’s most pressing issues.
The Director of Knowledge Leadership is a grant-funded position at The Foundation. The person in this position plays a key role in capturing and sharing knowledge about 1) the current state of the issues our community faces; 2) the work that is being done and by whom; 3) what is being learned and what progress is being made; and 4) how Miamians can get involved and play a role in strengthening our community. The Director of Knowledge Leadership also plays a key role in sharing knowledge that better connects philanthropists to nonprofits to maximize the impact of the overwhelming generosity in Greater Miami.
The ideal candidate for this role is a strategic storyteller and educator. This person is a constant learner who can synthesize large quantities of knowledge and data into stories, publications and resources that Miamians can relate to and be compelled by.
Reports to: Vice President of Strategic Communications
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as a senior member of the Communications Team and work closely with the Vice President to design and implement a strategic approach to enabling The Miami Foundation to become a knowledge leader in Greater Miami and a source of invaluable information for Miamians to grow their civic engagement and social impact.
The Director of Knowledge Leadership will be responsible for driving learning, knowledge leadership and communications and management as follows:
Learning:
- Create tools and processes to operationalize learning across The Foundation’s programs, initiatives, and events so that the knowledge acquired and shared in these spaces can benefit a wider audience.
- Create relationships, tools, and processes to operationalize a way to learn about the social impact work and progress happening across Greater Miami so that it can be shared with The Foundation’s growing audience
- Define and operationalize an approach to learning from grantee data that The Foundation collects so that this knowledge can benefit a wider audience of philanthropists.
- Be a visible community leader and build a strong range of cross-sector relationships, especially with nonprofits in Greater Miami, to stay abreast of the work and progress happening in our community.
Knowledge Leadership:
- Lead the strategic vision and project management to maintain and further enhance The Miami Foundation’s new online platform that is designed to better inform and engage Miamians in social impact work and in building a stronger community.
- Lead the strategic vision, drafting, project management, and publication of The Foundation’s annual report, with the goal of creating a resource that helps readers learn more about the issues Miami faces and the work being done.
- ·Create and deliver a scope and sequence of knowledge publications (of different lengths, styles, and formats) that enables Miamians to have access to the Foundation’s learnings over time.
- Produce knowledge reports for (or as a result of) Foundation events to enable a wider audience to learn from those events.
Communications & Management:
- Manage the contracts and work of consultants and vendors as appropriate to advance the knowledge leadership portfolio of work.
- Develop and implement comprehensive communications plans to disseminate and promote the Foundation’s knowledge leadership resources so that they may be helpful and sought after by the Greater Miami community.
Requirements
Experience, Abilities & Skills
Experience
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work or life experiences.§ 8+ years of work experience, with a preference for social sector experience.
- Experience designing and implementing learning agendas.§ Experience creating and managing impactful knowledge resources that utilize both quantitative and qualitative data (including stories) to maximize learning.
- Strong writing experience, with the ability to adjust tone and language to adapt to specific audiences.
- Strong experience managing large-scale, web-based technology projects and managing external vendors.
- Communications and marketing knowledge, with professional experience being a plus.
- Excellent skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, email protocol, and internet research.
- Multilingual is a plus.
