General Description of the Role

The Corporate Counsel, Supply Chain (“CC”) is a key role in the legal department reporting to the General Counsel of Americas, APAC, and Houses of Whiskies and Rum and Agave Spirits.  The role is located at the company’s Lawrenceburg, KY Wild Turkey Distillery, with occasional days at the Wilderness Trail Distillery site in Danville, KY.  This attorney will serve as an onsite legal advisor for the production sites of Wild Turkey and Wilderness Trail, providing general support for a variety of their operational needs.

Mission/Objectives 
The mission of the CC is to proactively manage legal matters and mitigate risks pertaining to distillery operations, ensuring that all activities align with company objectives, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.  This position demands not only a keen understanding of production workflows and regulatory landscapes, but also the ability to foster collaborative relationships with plant leadership, procurement teams, regional, and sometimes even global, stakeholders. The candidate should demonstrate a strong business acumen, practical problem-solving skills, and the ability to deliver actionable legal advice in a dynamic production environment.  

This role will encompass a wide range of activities, such as ensuring the plants operate in compliance with Campari Group’s policies, as well as in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.  In addition, he or she will negotiate and draft contracts with vendors, customers, and logistics providers, as well as potentially support cross-border supply chain initiatives for maximum consistency and efficiency in the partnership between operations, procurement, engineering, and legal.  The CC will also support the HR team in Kentucky with legal support for labor and employment matters at both production sites.  

He or she will also serve as support to the Regional GC leading or assisting in various projects as needed.

Key Responsibilities & Activities

  • Support general legal and compliance needs of the distillery operations, identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including marketing agency agreements, supplier contracts, bulk sales, and logistics agreements.  
  • Work with regional and global counterparts to jointly develop unified ways of working and contract templates that coordinate efficiently with other Campari production sites.
  • Advise on marketing, advertising, and promotional activities for Campari’s bourbon portfolio.
  • Provide full corporate governance support for Wildernesss Trail, a joint venture with minority owners.
  • Develop local policies, procedures, and trainings for the supply chain personnel in Kentucky, covering Campari ways of working and policies, as well as local, state, federal, and global compliance and regulatory matters.
  • Stay informed about emerging laws and regulations in the alcoholic beverage industry, as well as general commercial and corporate law and compliance for relevant jurisdictions.

Internal:  Wild Turkey Distillery leadership team; Wild Turkey commercial teams; Global, regional, and local procurement teams; Global, regional, and local engineering teams.

External: External counsel, Governmental regulators, Minority Owners, Vendors and Suppliers, Customers

Experience, Education & Personal Traits

  • JD an accredited US law school and active membership in KY or NY state bar.
  • At least 5-8 years of in-house counsel experience, preferably in a compliance or production support role.
  • Ability to provide pragmatic, balanced, and creative risk-mitigating solutions to support multiple and sometimes conflicting business goals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely to individuals from different functions, levels, and locations.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Expertise in compliance, regulatory matters, and a production environment are essential for success.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Exhibits a professional and respectful manner in dealing with others.
  • High degree of professional ethics, integrity, and gravitas.
  • High degree of sensitivity regarding confidential information

Additional Requirements
Availability to travel to NYC and/or internationally from time to time (5-10% of working days)
