 As a Crematory Coordinator or Manager, you’ll oversee the end-to-end cremation process.


Summary:

Responsible for operating specialized equipment to reduce human remains to bone fragments through cremation, ensuring proper identification and handling of the deceased while adhering to all state and local regulations. Maintain safety protocols, required logs and documentation, cleanliness, and facility equipment. Coordinate and schedule with funeral homes and staff, while providing compassionate service to families.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. 

  • Provide a professional approach and decorum with customers and fellow staff members and adhere to East Lawn’s Mission Statement and Values.
  • Maintain regular communication with funeral directors and managers to discuss and coordinate the details of cases, ensuring smooth operations and timely processing.
  • Verify the identity of the deceased by checking documentation and visually inspecting the body before placing it into the cremation chamber.
  • Process all incoming cremation cases to include verifying paperwork and authorizations, assign cremation tag, record cremation number and information into the cremation log.
  • Accurately document all aspects of the cremation process, including identification details and procedures followed. Maintain cremation logs, records and schedules. Schedule witness cremations and rush cases.
  • Operate cremation equipment: Operate crematory machines to cremate bodies using traditional flame-based cremation, calcination, or alkaline hydrolysis methods.
  • Ensure all personal items such as jewelry or medical devices from the deceased prior to cremation.
  • Use machine to pulverize cremated remains and properly package then store and the cremains for placement or return to family. 
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on crematory equipment and report any malfunctions to Senior Management. Schedule all necessary repairs and more complex routine maintenance for the crematory facilities and equipment are completed promptly and in compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Communicate with families regarding the cremation process, address concerns and offer emotional support during a difficult time.
  • Deliver cremated remains to the appropriate facility inside the timeline of Company Policy.
  • Run miscellaneous errands as necessary, i.e., transport cremation cases, deliver urns, small item pick-up and delivery.
  • Attend and assist during inspections conducted by the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), or any other oversite agency, at the crematory or mortuary to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Regularly review, update, and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements, while maintaining efficient and effective operations.
  • Gas and clean vehicles.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

· Possess valid driver license and maintain a clean driving record.

Education/Experience

· High school diploma or equivalent

· On the job experience


Math Ability

· Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide


Computer Skills

· Navigate the internet to find information, including the ability to open and configure standard browsers

· Mobile App Management

· Use a mobile app or scanner to track and manage the location of the deceased


Certificates and Licenses

· Valid Driver’s License

· Crematory Operation Certification 

· Crematory Manager License (Preferred)
