Summary:
The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for providing an engaging, effective, and approved educational program that promotes students' physical fitness, personal growth, and overall well-being. This role fosters a positive learning environment, supports the development of essential physical skills and attitudes, and builds foundational knowledge critical to lifelong fitness and health. The Physical Education Teacher is also expected to maintain strong relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the broader school community.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and deliver comprehensive physical education lessons aligned with New Jersey's Core Curriculum Content Standards and individualized education program (IEP) goals.
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of students by maintaining a structured, inclusive, and positive classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Implement and monitor individualized educational plans (IEP) to meet students' unique needs effectively.
- Consistently maintain accurate records of student progress, assessments, and attendance.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and staff regarding student development, progress, and areas for improvement.
- Adhere strictly to confidentiality standards concerning student records, information, and personal details in compliance with FERPA guidelines and applicable federal and state regulations.
- Exhibit strong professional work habits, including consistent punctuality, preparedness, effective use of instructional technology, and efficient lesson planning.
- Participate actively in continuous professional development opportunities, in-service training, and professional growth activities to remain current with best practices in physical education and special education.
- Engage proactively in faculty meetings, departmental planning, committees, school events, and assigned groups to enhance school community involvement and contribute to broader institutional goals.
- Attend required school events, including but not limited to Back to School Night, parent-teacher conferences, school-wide activities, and graduation ceremonies.
- Complete additional duties and special projects as assigned by the High School Administration or management.
- Promote and embody Collier High School’s mission and philosophy in all interactions and duties performed.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Physical Education or a related field.
Other:
- Valid New Jersey teaching certification in Physical Education.
- I have proven my ability to work effectively with a variety of student populations, especially those with special educational needs.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Commitment to professional ethics, confidentiality, and fostering inclusive learning environments.
- Stand, walk, sit, and be able to use their upper and lower extremities properly.
- Keep workspace, equipment, and utilities clean and tidy.
