The Opportunity
WORK MODEL: Hybrid
Whether it’s a contract, legislation, regulation, case or best practice, you’re never satisfied with someone else’s stock answer. What’s good enough for the next guy is your starting place; you’re just getting going. You’re creatively researching, negotiating, resolving or clarifying an issue to get the best outcome. Reporting to the General Counsel for Bridgewater Bank (BwB), you’ll be responsible for providing legal advice and services in relation to BwB’s corporate legal matters.
The Team You’ve Been Looking For
Bridgewater Bank is more than a financial institution; we’re a team of passionate people who care deeply about helping others succeed. Unlike traditional banks, we have no branches. At Bridgewater Bank, you’ll be part of a nimble, forward-thinking organization where your ideas matter, your contributions are valued, and your growth is encouraged. We’re driven to make a positive impact and our close-knit culture values flexibility, innovation, and genuine connection. As part of the Bridgewater team, you’ll enjoy:

- While you work well on your own, you love being part of a team and knowing that you’re making a contribution.
How You’ll Make an Impact

- Interpret and apply laws and regulations relevant to banking (ie. Bank Act, OSFI, FINTRAC and FCAC guidelines and regulatory bulletins).
- Ensure employment practices align with federal employment standards (Canadian Labour Code) and that workplace HR policies remain compliant.
- Navigate the world of privacy law with knowledge of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (“PIPEDA”).
- Work closely with compliance teams to align legal interpretations with operational practices.
- Help develop internal policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, ensuring they are legally sound and protect BwB’s interests.
- Manage or oversee litigation involving the bank.
- Coordinate with external counsel when necessary and represent the bank’s interests in legal and regulatory proceedings.
- Support the functions of the Chief Compliance Officer, Chief Privacy Officer, and Chief Anti-Money Laundering Officer.
