AFME is seeking to hire a Manager for our Frankfurt office who will coordinate the association’s advocacy activities in Germany.
AFME’s Frankfurt office is instrumental in developing and executing AFME’s strategic objective of raising awareness in Germany of the economic role of capital markets.
This role will play a key part in strengthening our relationships with German political and regulatory stakeholders, as well as supporting our broader European advocacy initiatives.
This is an exceptional opportunity to work across different areas in regulatory and government affairs. The Manager will be an integral part of the AFME’s pan-European advocacy team and an organisation that is at the cutting edge of forging regulatory change in European financial markets.
On behalf of our pan-European and global membership, AFME aims to provide fact-based analysis, industry insight and expertise to support financial sector regulatory processes and help ensure a clear understanding of how financial markets can meet the needs of the European economy.
AFME’s Advocacy Team works together with member firms and subject matter experts to articulate industry views and contribute rigorous analysis to the policymaking process. The role will involve exposure to AFME’s broader activities in analysing regulatory and supervisory developments and contributing to European legislative and public policy debates.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify key German official sector stakeholders of relevance to AFME in Berlin and Frankfurt principally, but not limited to, the Bundestag, Ministries, Chancellery, BaFin, Bundesbank.
- Help expand AFME’s stakeholder network in Germany, building and managing these relationships for the organisation.
- Gather intelligence on political, regulatory, and market developments, and brief colleagues and members accordingly.
- Closely track the regulatory agenda with respect to the organisation’s defined priorities across a wide range of policy areas.
- Organise advocacy engagement and briefings for the CEO and senior colleagues to ensure that AFME’s overarching messages are delivered to principal decision-makers.
- Coordinate AFME’s overall participation in the German financial services trade association landscape.
- Manage and coordinate AFME’s primary membership group in Germany, the Frankfurt Forum (setting of meetings, agendas, governance, take forward action points).
- Oversee AFME’s compliance with the German Lobby Register.
- Maintain an overview of German workstreams to which AFME contributes and, in cooperation with colleagues, articulate the organisation’s priorities across these for review by senior management.
- In the context of AFME’s European scope, work closely with subject matter experts in the policy & advocacy teams to align advocacy plans and consistency of messaging across jurisdictions.
- Cooperate with Communications colleagues to ensure media visibility as needed.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential:
- Good understanding of German political institutions and dynamics.
- Strong analytical skills, ability to distil complex information and synthesise large volumes of information into key insights.
- Demonstrated ability to grasp implications of policy developments across a broad range of files.
- Strong interpersonal skills with confidence to liaise and build relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate with both specialists and non-specialists in a clear, concise and straightforward manner.
- Proven ability to collaborate and build consensus.
- Proactive, self-motivated and intellectual curiosity.
- Ability to prioritise, multi-task, and to work to tight deadlines.
- Technical rigour and attention to detail.
- Interest in financial markets, public policy, and EU and German regulatory frameworks.
Essential:
- 3-5 years’ experience working either in government, a regulatory authority, financial services firm, trade association or professional services firm on financial service policy matters in Germany and/or EU.
- Relevant academic background (e.g. finance, law, economics, politics, or other relevant field).
- Native-level fluency in German; excellent drafting skills in English.
- Familiarity with current wholesale capital market policy issues in Germany and/or other AFME core policy areas
- Additional European language(s) an asset.
