This Senior Data Scientist will fill a critical gap by providing dedicated statistical and methodological expertise for Health IT AI initiatives, work that previously depended on inconsistent faculty contributions. The role will support the development of deidentified enterprise data, new AI applications, and validation of the proliferation of vendor-developed models being implemented across Johns Hopkins Medicine. 

General Position Summary: The Senior Data Scientist is responsible for modeling complex problems, discovering insights and identifying opportunities through the use of statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualization techniques. In addition to advanced analytic skills, the Senior Data Scientist is proficient at integrating and preparing large, varied datasets, architecting specialized database and computing environments, and communicating results. The Senior Data Scientist will work closely with the team and clients, data stewards, project/program managers, and other IT teams to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound organizational decisions. Other responsibilities will include providing data that is congruent and reliable and, the need to be creative thinkers and propose innovative ways to look at problems by using data mining on the set of information available.

Job Scope/Complexity: Responsible for full life-cycle of medium to large sized complex projects; strong technical skills; strong ability to understand complex business processes and working with multiple varied datasets in specialized databases. Develop solutions based on extensive technical knowledge, skills and experience; influence client towards innovative/integrated solutions. Designs experiments, test hypotheses, and build models. Conducts advanced data analysis and highly complex designs algorithm. Applies advanced statistical and predictive modeling techniques to build, maintain, and improve on multiple real-time decision systems.

1. Leads discovery processes with JHH stakeholders to identify the business requirements and the expected outcome.

2. Works with and alongside business analysts by suggesting other products of interest to the client.

3. Models and frames business scenarios that are meaningful and which impact on critical business processes and/or decisions.

ANALYSIS

1. Develops innovative and effective approaches to solve client's analytics problems and communicates results and methodologies.

2. Works in iterative processes with the client and validates findings.

3. Develops experimental design approaches to validate finding or test hypotheses.

4. Validates analysis using scenario modeling.

5. Identifies/creates the appropriate algorithm to discover patterns.

POLICIES, STANDARDS AND PROCEDURES

1. Develops usage and access control policies and systems in collaboration with the data steward.

2. Partners with the data stewards in continuous improvement processes impacting data quality in the context of the specific use case.

3. Recommends ongoing improvements to methods and algorithms that lead to findings, including new information.

METRICS

1. Provides business metrics for the overall project to show improvements (contribution to the improvement should be monitored initially and over multiple iterations).

2. Demonstrates the following scientist qualities: clarity, accuracy, precision, relevance, depth, breadth, logic, significance, and fairness.

Required Education: Masters in mathematics, statistics or computer science or related field; PHD degree preferred.

 Required Experience: Requires 5 or more years of relevant quantitative and qualitative research and analytics experience.

 

 

Salary Range: Minimum $45.97/hour - Maximum $​​​​80.46/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
