Pastoral Care Practitioner – Grade 1

Fixed Term Part Time until April 2026 (22.8 hours per week)

About the role

The Pastoral Care Practitioner Grade 1 will be responsible for the delivery of high quality, culturally safe, person-centred spiritual and emotional care that addresses the needs of patients, families and staff. 

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Working collaboratively with the Pastoral and Bereavement Service Team and multidisciplinary teams on assigned wards

  • Undertaking assessment of emotional, spiritual and religious needs and tailoring pastoral interventions accordingly

  • Completing accurate documentation in patient files and the Patient Administration System

  • Prepared to be ‘on-call’ on weekends as rostered

 

About You

You will be:

  • Warm and compassionate with experience in delivering pastoral care services in a hospital setting.

  • Able to respond to the diverse needs of people from faith/no faith backgrounds

  • Inclusive and approachable with excellent communication skills

  • Be an accredited Eucharistic Minister in the Catholic tradition (desirable)

  • Eligible for membership of Spiritual Care Australia

  • Proficient computer skills and competent in documentation and reporting requirements

  • Be confident in your knowledge and skills and open to further learning and professional development

You will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in theology or pastoral care or relevant field of studies

  • Supervised training in providing spiritual care (e.g. Clinical Pastoral Education)
