Job Summary: THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1635000 and is part of the IL 183 WG, National Guard.

Major Duties:

  • As a AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-8602-5/8/10, you will certify acceptable performance, test, repair, trouble-shoot, operationally check and modify aircraft turbine and auxiliary power units, and associated propulsion system components. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Install, remove, operate, and repair a variety of conventional and modified aircraft engines and engine accessories systems on and off the aircraft. Train lower graded employees on proper certification techniques of installed engine components. Perform verification that engine is operating within acceptable parameters for safe operation in the aircraft. Operate a variety of test equipment, such as vibration analyzers, air data simulators, engine monitoring computer, data transfer equipment, dynamic propeller balancing equipment, high pressure hydraulic test equipment, voltmeters and other precision measurement equipment. Troubleshoot, modify, repair, and perform sequential disassembly and assembly of gearboxes and auxiliary power units. Interpret technical orders, manufacturer's catalogs, blueprints and schematic drawings, to obtain the technical information. Interpret and utilize jet engine theory and the integration of the jet engine with all aircraft systems to troubleshoot malfunctions and accomplish repairs. Utilize engine trending data to determine defects and failure rates on installed engines. Perform mathematics to determine tolerances and performance specifications involved in engine buildup and test cell operations. Interpret and follow state and federal regulations regarding the reclamation, storage and transportation of hazardous materials.

Qualifications: AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence: The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted only- Minimum Rank E1 - Maximum Rank E7 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training that has provided the ability to perform assembly and disassembly operations and make prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories in accordance with technical specifications, procedures and requirements; and experience using hand and power tools common to the trade. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes experience or training performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories. Experience or training performing maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft engines, engine components, and powertrains for fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft. Experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical records, and diagnosis. WG-08 Level - MUST possess specialized experience removing and installing components and accessories with detailed guidance; and experience in following detailed instructions in making minor repairs and modifications to aircraft engines, subassemblies and components. WG-05 Level - MUST possess specialized experience using common hand tools in making repetitive mechanical repairs under close supervision; and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
