What You’ll Be Doing:

The Operate team develops the process operations tool for Camunda 8. Operate allows users to monitor large volumes of process executions in real time, as well as to drill into any particular instances, inspect their state and resolve problems. Camunda customers use Operate for some of their mission-critical business processes that they run at large scale.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to solidify and enhance Operate in the face of high throughput use cases. You will be empowered to make decisions while collaborating with Product Management, Product Designers and other Engineers.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing features and improvements to the product in a secure, well-tested, and performant way that meet our internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices. You will maintain and advocate for these standards through code reviews.
  • Fixing bugs and applying refactorings that solidify our product today and for future requirements, based on prioritization by value.
  • Collaborating with Product Management, Product Designers, fellow Engineers and other stakeholders to maintain a high bar for quality in a fast-paced, iterative environment.
  • Helping our customers resolve problems operating and using our software as part of 3rd-level support.
  • Performing spikes to discover technical requirements and solutions to problems with high technical uncertainty.

What You Bring:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Java Backend Engineer.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience using Java and Elasticsearch.
  • Practical experience working with Spring, Spring Boot, Maven, and Docker.
  • A pragmatic and autonomous approach to programming and problem solving.
  • Ambition and drive to understand and own an established codebase that solves complex business problems.
  • A collaborative mindset that we can solve the hardest problems together in our team.
  • Passion to coach other engineers, making other people better by sharing your expertise, and improving team practices.
  • Ability and/or willingness to use our product

Nice to Have:

  • Knowledge of GitHub workflows and actions
  • Experience designing APIs

A new hire must sign Camunda’s on-call policy and be willing to join the team’s on-call rotation after getting up to speed with customer support. Key points about on-call (policy with all the details can be reviewed of course before signing):

    • On-Call rotates on a weekly basis
    • Only for critical product problems where our L1/L2 support cannot help
    • Extra compensation both for being on-call as well as taking calls
    • Camunda can request max one week of on-call per month

Compensation

For external hires, we consider the skills and experience of the incoming candidate, but typically place candidates in the first half of the range to ensure ample room for growth over the entire lifecycle of the role.

Below is the annual Total Target Cash Compensation (Total Cash) range for Camundi located in one of our entities. Total Cash refers to base salary and 100% attainment of variable target, where applicable. Actual Total Cash offered will depend on factors such as skills and qualifications related to the role. To comprise the Total Rewards package, Camunda also offers equity (where applicable) in the form of a Virtual Employee Stock Option Plan and benefits based on the country of residence.

The annual Total Cash range for this position for Camundi in our entities is as follows:

  • United States: $126,800.00 to $190,100.00
  • Germany: €84,300.00 to €126,500.00
  • United Kingdom: £82,200.00 to £123,200.00
  • Singapore: S$157,400.00 to S$236,100.00
