About the job

This is an exciting and pivotal time to join our Trustee Board and, we are seeking trustees to join our board to help to lead a relentless focus on achieving our five strategic priorities, enhance diversity and inclusion at Samaritans, expand our service to be there for more callers, better support our volunteers & staff, and build on our influential voice across the UK and Ireland. All this needs to be done in the current challenging financial environment, meaning effective decision-making and prioritisation are paramount.

Applications are open to current volunteers within Samaritans, for example at Samaritans’ branches, hubs or the Central Charity itself – whether as listening volunteers, support volunteers or other voluntary roles. Samaritans is wholly committed to equal opportunities for all, and we actively and warmly encourage applications from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences. We encourage applicants from certain underrepresented backgrounds on our board, and following our recent diversity audit, we particularly welcome applications from individuals with experience of disability.

We cannot achieve our vision that fewer people die by suicide without inspirational, visionary, values-driven leadership from the very top of our organisation. Trustees with the right skills, experience and knowledge, are pivotal to our future success. Once they join the Board of Trustees, our Trustees generally take on roles on committees or working groups.

Full application and eligibility details are available on our recruitment site, where a copy of our trustee recruitment brochure is also available for download.
