The University of Chicago’s Summer Institute in Social Research Methods provides students with an accelerated training in theoretically-grounded research methodologies to better understand and develop more informed policy and program solutions to real-world problems. The immersive summer experience features a combination of classroom instruction, skills-building workshops, and hands-on research experience.


Job Information

Job Summary:

The Program Assistant will work with SISRM staff to execute a summer program for 80+ undergraduate students, and provide assistance with communications and various internal projects.

In this position, the Program Assistant will help execute a 10-week summer program, including 5 weeks of daily programming that includes weekly off-campus field trips in the Chicagoland area. In addition to programmatic duties, the Program Assistant will work closely with the SSD Communications staff to create a series of profiles and articles about SISRM, run SISRM social media and newsletter, and contribute to the SISRM annual report.

Responsibilities:

  • Create student profiles, manage social media and newsletter
  • Contribute to report writing
  • Attend Daily workshops and aid with set up and clean up
  • Edit videos and photos for SISRM promotional materials

Competencies:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide array of populations, including faculty, staff, students, and guests
  • Able to work independently, effectively prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines
  • Enjoys creative projects and has a desire to learn new skills
  • Demonstrates flexibility, eagerness to collaborate, and confidence to learn new systems
  • Capacity to handle sensitive and confidential information with tact and discretion
  • Strong proofreading and writing skills are essential; graphic design and video editing experience is a plus
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and the suite of Google tools is essential; experience with Adobe Creative Suite, email distribution software (such as MailChimp), social media platforms a plus
