Job Summary
The Director, Entrepreneurship Programs is a key leadership role on the Booth Entrepreneurship Program team at the Polsky Center, requiring an entrepreneurial mindset, an in-depth understanding of entrepreneurship and venture capital, and experience coaching and mentoring founders and students. This role oversees a large and expanding portfolio of graduate and undergraduate programs focused on entrepreneurial education, mentorship, and venture creation. The Director is responsible for proactively identifying gaps and opportunities in the Center’s offerings and designing innovative, high-impact experiential programs that equip students with the skills, knowledge, and networks to launch and grow ventures. This position plays a pivotal role in shaping the entrepreneurial culture and ecosystem at the University of Chicago. The Director also leads a team of 2-3 full-time staff members.
Responsibilities
- Leads the strategic growth and execution of graduate and undergraduate entrepreneurship programs, with a focus on venture creation and mentorship programs. This includes cultivating a strong network of mentors, advisors, and investors to support student entrepreneurs.
- Identifies, develops, and implements new and innovative educational and experiential programming that aligns with the Polsky Center’s mission and enhances the entrepreneurial ecosystem at Chicago Booth and the University of Chicago.
- Collaborates with faculty, senior staff, and external partners to enhance experiential program offerings, while managing the needs of stakeholders.
- Evaluates program effectiveness, leveraging data and participant feedback to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
- Manages a team of 2-3 full-time staff members to successfully execute, augment, and grow programming and events within the areas listed above.
- Works with Polsky Center leadership and the Alumni Relations and Development team to support fundraising efforts for relevant programs and initiatives, including developing fundraising proposals, building and managing relationships with donors, and stewarding gifts.
- Coordinates with the Polsky Center marketing team to build awareness of the Polsky Center’s offerings.
- Establishes strategic partnerships with internal and external organizations to provide constituents with best-in-class entrepreneurial opportunities and resources.
- Represents the Polsky Center at University-wide initiatives, conferences, and industry events to promote the center’s mission and programs.
- Manages the development of programming that creates student community, including summer activities, student leadership training, and other staff organized events.
- Provides staff management, resources, and training to organizations that create meaningful co-curricular and/or community service experiences for students.
- Performs other related work as needed.

- Bachelor’s degree.
- Master’s degree, MBA or related field, particularly with a focus on entrepreneurship and innovation.
Experience:
- At least seven years of relevant experience in entrepreneurship, innovation, venture creation, or program development.
- Background working in a university, accelerator, venture capital, or startup environment.
Preferred Competencies
- Deep understanding of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, including startup development, startup investment and financing, and innovation methodologies.
- Familiarity with academic institutions and experiential learning programs.
- Demonstrated entrepreneurial mindset, with experience designing, launching, and scaling new programs, initiatives, or ventures.
- Proven ability to manage uncertainty and execute initiatives with limited guidance.
- Strong strategic thinking and program development skills, identify opportunities, drive growth initiatives, and create impactful entrepreneurial programming.
- Proven ability to engage and collaborate with diverse audiences, including students, faculty, entrepreneurs, investors, and corporate partners, while facilitating consensus and driving projects forward.
- Exceptional communication skills, including professional verbal, written, and presentation abilities, with strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while maintaining high-quality execution in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-starter, work independently, and take initiative, as well as lead a team effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build relationships across different stakeholders, including students, faculty, alumni, and industry professionals.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic and evolving environment, with the ability to adapt to shifting priorities and manage frequent interruptions.
- Familiarity with the University of Chicago’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, systems, and stakeholders.
Working Conditions
- This position is currently expected to work a minimum three days per week in the office.
- Flexibility to travel frequently between the Hyde Park campus, Polsky Exchange, and other local entrepreneurial hubs.
- Occasionally work early mornings or late evenings for events.
