The role / What you will do at Ciena:

Lead team in accelerating phase in phase out projects to maximize cost reductions and supply security. Significantly impact business objectives and positively influence Ciena ability to compete in the market. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

                Leads PIPO with CMs to accelerate timelines and maximize CR.

  •  Manage Phase-in Phase-out projects to support cost reductions, quality improvement, product retirement and new product introduction.
  • Drive with CMs the blocking of future obsolete parts and drive independent demand on new parts. 
  • Optimize PIPO to limit excess generation and accelerate CR impact. 
  • Optimize PIPO timing and risk management with the team
  • Supplies material constraint info into ProdEng/R&D forums
  • Material levels, drive, demand, PO coverage, excess, etc.
  • Engaged with prod engineer and R&D to see the changes coming

                Identify and execute on materials opportunities 

  • Monitor key components and ensure security of supply strategies are in place.
  • Works with suppliers to ensure system data integrity, especially where related to forecast and component drive 
  • Performs “what if” analysis 
  • Escalate third party supply issues and engage the Global Commodity team as needed

                Manage strategic initiatives 

  • Prime on LTB materials management
  • Develop business cases for rework plan to provide cost savings, reduce inventory, avoid MOQs and impact supply chain.
  • Conduct analysis of Excess and Obsolete material (E&O), identify opportunities to minimize/consume (rework, vintage update, resale, RMA, non-Conformance, etc).

Candidate profile

·        Analytical data analysis supported by strong leadership

·        Team oriented, self-starter, organized with ability to give attention to details

·        Ability to remain positive and focused under pressure and drive for continuous improvement

·        Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with proven ability to work with employees at all levels through the organization (both internally and externally)

·        Effective written and verbal communication skills, to communicate efficiently with Ciena management and partners around the world

·        Proven ability to achieve results through EMS resources

·        Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, communicate progress and issues to management

Education

·        University Degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business Administration, or Engineering

·        Understanding of MRP/ERP systems, Materials Management or Procurement standards & procedures 

·        Any of the following are a plus:  APICS training or certifications (CPIM, CSCP).  Knowledge of Lean Mfg. techniques (i.e.: TPS), or Six Sigma framework (Black Belt/Green Belt training), PMP certification

Experience

·        10+ years of experience in material planning, procurement, new product introduction, production line management and/or prod engineering:

·        Knowledge of business tools (Excel, Power Point, Access, Macros, E2Open, Informatica, Hyperion)

·        Multi-plants / Multicultural experience / Contract manufacturer Management

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
