Job Title: Software Development Manager
Department: Information Technology
Reports To: Vice President of IT
Location: Ohio (Hybrid/Remote options available)
Position Summary
The Software Development Manager leads a dynamic team of software engineers and developers, driving the design, development, and delivery of high-quality software solutions. This role blends technical oversight with strategic leadership, fostering innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the software development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Coach and mentor team members to support career growth, engagement, and satisfaction.
- Conduct performance evaluations and guide skill development through structured feedback and goal setting.
- Participate in hiring and team composition planning to ensure optimal resource alignment.
Project & Process Management
- Lead strategic initiatives to improve software quality, performance, and delivery timelines.
- Collaborate with Product and Program Management to prioritize engineering initiatives, infrastructure changes, and feature requests.
- Manage vendor relationships and internal project execution, ensuring alignment with business goals.
Technical Oversight
- Work closely with software engineers and architects to ensure timely, successful, and high-quality releases.
- Review technical design specifications and contribute to architectural decisions that align with long-term IT strategy.
- Support multiple applications and projects requiring expertise across various technical environments.
Agile & SDLC Excellence
- Champion Agile methodologies and participate in Scrum of Scrums, roundtables, and leadership touchpoints to drive alignment and transparency.
- Identify gaps in processes or skillsets and implement strategies for short- and long-term improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience managing software development teams in an Agile environment.
- Strong understanding of SDLC, CI/CD, and modern development practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to balance hands-off leadership with technical credibility.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with .NET, SQL Server, RESTful APIs, and cloud platforms (Azure/AWS).
- Experience with vendor management and Agile transformation initiatives.
