The BlueCat Edge Cloud team runs and evolve a SaaS platform that supports high-scale, mission-critical networking applications for global enterprises. We are seeking a Principal DevOps Engineer to play a key role in leading the modernization and optimization of our AWS based control plane, while shaping long-term DevOps strategies and fostering operational excellence. This is a high-impact, senior individual contributor role that combines deep hands-on expertise in AWS infrastructure and DevOps practices with mentorship, technical leadership, and cross-functional collaboration at its core.

Key Responsibilities:


Leadership & Strategy:
  • Serve as a technical leader for the AWS based Edge Cloud platform, guiding its reliability, scalability, and cost optimization.
  • Partner with Product, Application, and Security teams to shape our cloud operations strategy and influence long-term architectural decisions.
  • Mentor engineers on DevOps practices, cloud infrastructure, and operational excellence.
  • Drive a culture of automation, observability, and operational responsibility across the team.


  • Platform Ownership:
  • Design, implement, and maintain AWS infrastructure that powers BlueCat’s Edge, a SaaS product.
  • Manage scaling, deployment/upgrades, and operational stability of containerized services running on ECS.
  • Scale and operate OpenSearch clusters, ensuring performance, reliability, and cost efficiency at high scale.
  • Implement AWS security best practices, including IAM, VPC design, Security Groups, WAF, and compliance controls.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, ensuring high availability and uptime SLAs.


  • DevOps & Infrastructure as Code:
  • Own Infrastructure-as-Code with Terraform, ensuring consistent and repeatable deployments.
  • Design and evolve CI/CD pipelines in GitLab to support faster, more reliable delivery.
  • Develop monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Vector, InfluxDB, Grafana) tailored for high-scale workloads.
  • Contribute to standardization of DevOps practices, tools, and internal best practices across the platform.


  • Cloud-Native & Future Evolution:
  • Partner with Kubernetes platform teams to support migration of selected services from ECS to Kubernetes where needed.
  • Influence long-term architecture with cloud-native designs (Kubernetes, Redis, Elasticsearch, Postgres, InfluxDB).
  • Drive improvements in networking, service discovery, and distributed systems performance.


  • Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering or DevOps, with at least 5 years managing large-scale AWS-based distributed systems.
  • Proven expertise in AWS ECS (Fargate and EC2) for production workloads.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS services: ECS, EC2, VPC, S3, IAM, RDS, Open Search, EKS, CloudWatch, ALB/NLB, Route 53, WAF, AWS Inspector, Config, GuardDuty etc.
  • Proficiency in Terraform for infrastructure management.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab preferred).
  • Deep knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, load balancing).
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with a focus on operational rigor and automation.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present technical concepts to leadership.
  • Passion for mentoring engineers and shaping team technical direction.


  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Kubernetes certifications (CKA, CKAD, CKS) – strong plus.
  • Experience in multi-cloud environments (Azure, GCP).
  • Familiarity with federal/compliance frameworks (FIPS, FedRAMP, FISMA).
