Senior Data Center Engineer - Job Description

Our Team The Platform Engineering team is composed of engineers working cross-functionally to provide support for our entire product infrastructure. We are a team that leads large scale deployment projects, using thoughtful and creative solutions, and aspire to give our engineers all the tools they need to study and implement those solutions.

What You’ll Do In this role, you will dive deep into planning, implementation, and the support of an always-on, robust hardware infrastructure. We have a mixture of equipment from Cisco as well as open source white-labeled platforms. DV maintains both physical and virtual data center presences throughout the world. You will handle everyday needs for large platform installations in the data centers, as well as daily operational work with team members, other developers, and contractors. You will participate in the development and deployment of any additional data centers as the company expands. The position is a mix of hands-on work in our data and colocation centers, process thinking, and project management. 

Your work will mostly involve designing, building, scaling, and performing daily upkeep in our regional data and colocation centers. You’ll collaborate with talented people from all different areas of expertise to optimize our data center environments, optimize and improve existing infrastructure, and plan for low latency and high availability compute environments. 

You will join an interdisciplinary team made up of Network, Server, Storage,and software engineers along withexternal data center operators, colocation and smart hands service providers, including cabling, hardware, and telco vendors. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design plans for new equipment deployments using data center best practices
• Ensure that all our data centers uphold the highest standards in terms of security, organization, documentation, safety, cleanliness, and supply management
• Coordinate logistical tasks across locations, including procurement, shipping, moving, and keeping inventory of our equipment, cabling, and parts
• Provide technical leadership for complex projects to increase the stability of our infrastructure, enhance scalability, efficiency, and quality of infrastructure deployments
• Install and configure server OS in a PXE environment (fundamental Linux knowledge is required to deploy our equipment)
• Interact with configuration management systems, CMDB, and process automation tools such as ansible and terraform
• Plan, install, cable, configure, and troubleshoot different types of network and server equipment

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience with vendor management, datacenter deployments, disaster recovery architecture, and structured cabling
• Architecting, developing, and troubleshooting high availability systems
• Expertise with Linux systems hardware interactions and administration
• Designing, building, and maintaining production servers
• Administration of virtualized solutions such as Proxmox or VCenter
• Extensive experience with datacenter deployments, Structured Cabling, and electricity budget calculating
• Deep understanding of disaster recovery architecture
• Vendor Management and leading of contractors in data center work
• Scripting automation in one or more of the following languages: Bash, Python, PowerShell
• Excellent communication skills and a sense of ownership, with a systematic problem-solving approach

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on a number of non-discriminating factors, including qualifications for the role, level, skills, experience, location, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at DV.
The estimated salary range for this role based on the qualifications set forth in the job description is between [$89,000- $194,000]. This role will also be eligible for bonus/commission (as applicable), equity, and benefits.
