The External Manufacturing Procurement Manager, a member of the Global Manufacturing Procurement organization, supports the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) and Dry Products External Manufacturing Networks. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing the category sourcing strategies that enable Lilly’s Manufacturing organization to engage external contract manufacturing organizations (CMO) to produce active pharmaceutical ingredients and dry drug products. Activities include sourcing, negotiating, contracting, reporting, and networking across procurement, finance, manufacturing, quality, technical services, legal, and other areas involved in managing external CMO.
Key Objectives / Deliverables:
Support procurement activities and provide commercial leadership for raw materials, intermediates, API, and dry products with external contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs).
Develop, execute, and maintain supplier strategy through sourcing, supplier selection, contract negotiation, contract management, risk management, and cost management.
Provide market intelligence to support sourcing strategies.
Conduct spend analytics and prepare various reports.
Understand commercial strategy, governance processes, and business operational requirements.
Work directly and closely with manufacturing functional leadership, manufacturing support areas, and governance teams to ensure continuity of supply while maintaining an efficient cost-effective supply chain.
Partner with Finance and Supply Chain to ensure smooth and accurate hand-offs between negotiated agreements and the associated SAP activities (PO setup, Material Costing, etc.).
Manage supplier relationships with key global suppliers to establish and maintain relationships, influence the continuity of a reliable continuous supply chain, and establish or maintain an efficient cost-effective supply chain. This includes leadership of both the executive and operational level governance programs which require interaction with high level management and technical resources internal and external to Lilly.
Facilitate delivery of development pipeline, ensure reliability of commercially manufactured products, and perform risk mitigation activities from assessment of risk through development of risk mitigation strategies and implementation to execution of the annual supplier risk management process.
Basic Requirements:
Bachelors degree in a scientific, engineering, business, finance, supply chain, procurement or other related professional field
At least 5 years of direct pharmaceutical experience
Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization and/or visas for this role.
Preferred Experience:
At least 3 years of experience in procurement, external supply or manufacturing of relevant materials, or pharmaceutical manufacturing (operations, technical service/material science, etc.)
Previous experience working directly with suppliers in commercial, technical, or governance capacity
Demonstrated ability to influence business decision making both internally & externally.
Demonstrated business acumen, project management, presentation, and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to appropriately prioritize the value between requirements, schedule, price, and quality
Additional Preferences:
Previous external manufacturing procurement or sourcing experience
Previous negotiation experience
Previous SAP or Ariba procurement experience
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, and PowerPoint
Previous experience representing the business in the acquisition of goods or services.
Other Information:
This position is located in Indianapolis, IN and reports into the Indianapolis-based Global Manufacturing Procurement organization.
This is a full time position requiring flexibility to support sites in multiple time zones.
Some periodic international travel to CMO, conferences, and Lilly sites is required (~10%).

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$57,750 - $129,800Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
