Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced and visionary Vice President of Engineering to lead the development and modernization of our .com and eCommerce platforms. This role is critical in driving digital transformation, ensuring scalable, high-performance solutions, and enhancing the customer journey across pre-purchase, purchase, and post-purchase stages.

As VP of Engineering, reporting to the SVP, Growth Experience Technology, you will oversee the technical strategy, execution of the development and operations of our web and commerce technology stack. You will collaborate closely with Architecture, Product Management, UX, Data Science, and cross-functional teams including Platform engineering teams. You will also play a key role in MarTech integration, ensuring seamless digital experiences across our customer lifecycle.

You’ll work with teammates across the globe and will travel up to 15% of the time for face-to-face meetings like conferences, team offsites, and team visits. This role is preferred hybrid to our San Francisco office.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy 

  • Define and execute the engineering vision and roadmap for .com and eCommerce solutions

  • Build, mentor, and scale high-performing global engineering teams, fostering a culture of modernization, technical excellence and innovation

  • Partner with Architecture, Product, UX, and Data Science to deliver a seamless digital customer experience, with AI-driven experiences, where appropriate

  • Align engineering goals with business objectives to drive revenue growth and customer satisfaction

Engineering & Technical Execution 

  • Oversee the development and optimization of our global .com and eCommerce platforms

  • Ensure high availability, performance, and security of digital properties handling significant traffic and transactions

  • Lead integration of MarTech tools (Campaign reporting, Marketo, Customer Data Platform, AI-driven personalization, etc.) to enhance customer engagement

  • Champion the use of modern technologies including real-time data infrastructure, open source technologies, automation, DevOps best practices, and CI/CD to improve development velocity and quality

  • Evaluate and implement new technologies to improve full funnel reporting/optimization, customer conversion, retention, and operational efficiency

Collaboration & Cross-Functional Impact 

  • Work closely with Finance & Operations to modernize order processing, cash management, and business processes

  • Collaborate with Platform engineering and Security & Compliance teams to meet data privacy (GDPR, CCPA) and compliance standards

  • Influence executive stakeholders and advocate for engineering investments that drive business impact

Minimum Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles

  • 5+ years of experience in managing and leading high performing global teams

  • Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in software engineering or computer science or equivalent work experience

  • Proven track record leading large-scale web, eCommerce platforms, relational, and noSQL databases. Data lake/warehouse, real-time data infrastructure, search engines, community platforms

  • Proven ability to drive data-driven decision-making and A/B testing methodologies

  • Deep expertise in modern web architectures, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), and API-driven commerce

  • Strong understanding of personalization, Customer Data Platform, AI/ML for digital experiences

  • Experience in high-traffic, multi-region web platforms with a focus on performance, reliability, and security

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills

  • Strong technical acumen balanced with a strategic mindset to drive business impact

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with subscription-based commerce business models and digital payments

  • Exposure to MarTech, SalesTech, and Finance Tech platforms

Salary transparency

Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $275,500 and $378,840. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
