Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking to add a Principal Electronics Engineer OR Senior Principal Electronics Engineer – Hardware Architect to our team in Rancho Bernardo, CA or Palmdale, CA. This position will be in our Avionics Integration Organization supporting.
The candidate will develop and maintain detailed system architecture documentation for complex IT systems and will function as an interface between multiple interdisciplinary teams to capture, communicate, and plan the architectural needs of fielding heavily virtualized complex IT systems. The Hardware Architect will focus on hardware architecture, COTS software solutions, network engineering, and Information Technology (IT) systems engineering. The candidate will be working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment working closely with other Tech Areas in both lab and production environments. Candidate should have excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborate with other engineers to architect a system to meet design requirements and stakeholder needs.
- Develop presentations and brief high levels of leadership to communicate overall system capabilities, design challenges, and recommended architectural solutions
- Develop and release engineering documentation for detailed system architecture and requirements.
- Reviewing cameo models, requirements, drawings, and system build instructions to ensure architectural intent is being met
The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility. There is no remote / hybrid / telework available for this position. This position may require the ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
This position can be filled at either the Principal Electronics Engineer OR Senior Principal Electronics Engineer – Hardware Architect level, depending upon the qualifications below.
Basic Qualifications for Principal Electronics Engineer – Hardware Architect:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 0 years of related engineering experience.
- Experience with systems engineering practices
- Experience with Microsoft Visio and other Office products to express engineering documentation
- Active in-Scope, DoD Top Secret clearance.
- Ability to obtain and maintain initial Special Program Access (SAP/PAR). This SAP/PAR must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs. (Of note: SAP/PAR will be upgraded once selected candidate is in role. Therefore, candidate must also be able to obtain and maintain upgraded SAP/PAR.)

- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 3 years of related engineering experience.
- Experience with systems engineering practices
- Experience with Microsoft Visio and other Office products to express engineering documentation
- Active in-Scope, DoD Top Secret clearance.
- Ability to obtain and maintain initial Special Program Access (SAP/PAR). This SAP/PAR must be obtained prior to commencement of employment and must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs. (Of note: SAP/PAR will be upgraded once selected candidate is in role. Therefore, candidate must also be able to obtain and maintain upgraded SAP/PAR.)
