Qualifications

Required

  • Master's degree.
  • Four (4) years of experience in teaching, some of which shall have been in secondary school subjects or equivalent experience.
    • Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
  • Postgraduate educational license with endorsement(s) designated as appropriate to the assignment.
  • Administration and supervision PreK-12 endorsement.
  • May be required to work evening and weekend events.
  • Knowledge of the philosophy, practices, and organizational structure of a comprehensive student activities program.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct athletic and nonathletic programs.
  • Ability to schedule and coordinate student and community activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Preferred

  • Experience in coaching or directing athletic or nonathletic activities.

Major Duties/Essential Functions

  1. Plans, schedules, and oversees intramural and interscholastic day, evening, and weekend athletic events, coordinating schedules with other activities within the school and with other schools.
  2. Directs preparation and distribution of supplementary activities contracts; plans and oversees a comprehensive nonathletic activities program (drama, music, speech, clubs, etc.).
  3. Interviews and recommends candidates to fill coaching/sponsor vacancies.
  4. Supervises and advises coaches and sponsors.
  5. Supervises and participates in preparing for events, including preparation of facilities, securing necessary temporary personnel (such as ticket sellers, police, speech crews, doctors, and game officials light crews), arranging for transportation, allotting concessions, preparing for traffic and crowd control, and arranging for cleanup and repair after events; determines students' eligibility for athletic teams and nonathletic competition.
  6. Prepares eligibility lists and arranges for physical examinations as required by Virginia High School League regulations; supervises and participates in the maintenance of accounts and processing of required insurance forms; supervises and participates in selection, requisitioning, inventory, laundering, and repair of equipment and supplies.
  7. Prepares coaches' budgets.
  8. Plans and schedules student activities and events such as dances, performances, and testing programs.
  9. Coordinates community use of facilities to avoid conflicts.
  10. May supervise the school health and physical education program including counseling instructors, approving curriculum, ordering materials, and controlling hazards.
  11. May supervise a fine and performing arts department or other departments as designated by the principal.
  12. May direct student health services including nursing care, physical fitness testing, and appropriate follow- up
  13. Arranges special events such as award presentations, graduations, rallies, and programs by outside groups interested in promoting student activities.
  14. Supervises and participates in the driver education program.
  15. Attends meetings of student activity directors including conferences outside the district, and serves on faculty committees as directed by the principal.
  16. Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
