About Us:

Founded in 1968 to meet the post-secondary and continuing education needs of Cecil County residents, Cecil College has been serving the community and shaping its future for more than 50 years. The College is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor. The College’s fifth president, Dr. Mary Way Bolt, reports directly to the Board of Trustees.

Cecil College is centrally located in Maryland’s most northeastern county, just one half mile from Interstate 95. It is easily accessible from Philadelphia and Baltimore, as well as from Wilmington, Delaware.

With a diverse student population, Cecil College enrolls approximately 2,500 credit students and 3,400 non-credit students. Cecil offers associate degrees, certificate programs and non-credit classes. Cecil offers a variety of associate degree and certificate programs.

JOB SUMMARY

The physician medical director is responsible for medical oversight of the education program including clinical and patient care aspects of the program.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Review and approval of the educational content of the program to include didactic, laboratory, clinical experience, field experience, and capstone field internship to ensure it meets current standards of medical practice.
  • Review and approval of the required minimum numbers for each of the required patient contacts and procedures listed in these standards.
  • Review and approval of the instruments and processes used to evaluate students in didactic, laboratory, clinical, field experience, and capstone field internship.
  • Review of the progress of each student throughout the program and assist in the determination of appropriate corrective measures.
  • Ensuring the competence of each graduate of the program in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains.
  • Engaging in cooperative involvement with the program director.
  • Ensuring the effectiveness and quality of any Medical Director responsibilities delegated to an Associate or Assistant Medical Director
  • Interacts in a variety of settings, such as lecture, laboratory, clinical, capstone field internship. Interaction may be synchronous electronic methods.
  • Serve as patient advocate by demanding the highest quality education for students.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Be a physician currently licensed and authorized to practice in Maryland, and board certified or the equivalent.
  • Have adequate training or experience in the delivery of out-of-hospital emergency care, including the proper care and transport of patients, medical direction, and quality improvement in out -of-hospital care.
  • Have requisite knowledge and skills to advise the program leadership about the clinical/academic aspects of the program.
  • Be knowledgeable about the education of the Emergency Medical Services Professions, including professional, legislative and regulatory issues regarding the education of the Emergency Medical Services Professions.
  • Be knowledgeable in teaching the subjects assigned, when applicable.
  • Familiarity with the design and operation of EMS systems, particularly the system or systems in which the student will be working.
  • Active participation in the emergency management of acutely ill and injured patients.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Board certification in emergency medicine.
  • Fellowship training in EMS.
  • Education or experience in EMS quality improvement.
  • Involvement in national emergency medicine or EMS organizations.

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

  • May require evening or weekend hours.
  • Clinical and lab environments may involve exposure to simulated and real medical scenarios.
  • Physical ability to demonstrate EMT procedures, lift equipment, and support student training needs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to lift and move up to a maximum of 50 lbs. The physical activity of this position includes but is not limited to: climbing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, pulling, lifting, grasping, twisting, and sitting.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations and traffic signals when driving.

This position supports information technology at Cecil College’s North East and Elkton Station campus and may involve support for other locations and instructional sites as needed.
