The Purpose:
As the Accounting Director, you will lead a high-performing team of professionals across EMEA and LATAM, overseeing global accounting operations for a rapidly scaling payments organisation. You will drive operational excellence, modernise financial processes, and ensure the accounting function keeps pace with the company’s international growth and regulatory demands.
A key part of the role will be leveraging automation, AI-enabled efficiencies, and systems optimisation — including the rollout of a new ERP and reconciliation tool— to enhance accuracy, scalability, and speed across the close and reporting lifecycle. You will partner closely with Financial Operations (Customer reconciliation), FP&A, Treasury, and the Group Accounting team to build a best-in-class global finance ecosystem.
You will also ensure compliance with evolving accounting regulations across all relevant jurisdictions and strengthen our internal control framework.
This role will be based in London.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & StrategyLead, mentor, and develop the Accounting organisation across EMEA and LATAM, fostering a culture of performance, accountability, continuous improvement and collaborationShape the long-term strategy for global accounting and controllership to support the company’s international expansionDrive a transformation agenda focused on automation, AI-enabled workflows, and data-driven decision-makingOperational ExcellenceLead the global month-end close processes, delivering timely and accurate financial resultsStrengthen accountability and adherence to project timelines, with a specific focus on audit requirementsShorten the close cycle through automation, process redesign, and systems integration Ensure alignment between actuals, internal reporting, and the investment model; identify and explain variancesImprove aged receivable collections and partnership with commercial team and legal to progress best practiceAudit, Compliance & ControlsAct as a key partner to the Group Accounting team in delivering the year-end audit process for group IFRS financials and local statutory accountsCommunicate with audit partners on local Statutory accounts (outside of Germany)Maintain strong governance over financial policies, accounting standards, and transfer pricing documentationCollaborate closely with the Technical Accounting team on group accounting matters, policy interpretations, and audit readinessOwn and further develop the group-wide Accounting Manual and internal control framework that mitigates financial and operational risksSystems, Data & AutomationServe as owner of the ERP landscape, ensuring MS Dynamics and consolidation tools are implemented, optimised, and fully utilisedPartner with Data & Analytics teams to build an integrated Finance IT architecture — including automated reconciliations, sub-ledgers, and AI-driven anomaly detectionDrive adoption of new billing and reporting solutions across regions
Key Requirements
Qualified accountant with 10+ years of leadership experience in Accounting or Controllership roles, including managing distributed international teamsDemonstrated ability to lead large, multi-country teams, operating across diverse time zonesDeep technical expertise in IFRS and local accounting standardsStrong experience operating within complex global financial services regulatory frameworksBackground in payments or fintech is preferredProven experience with ERP platforms, automation technologies, and large-scale finance systems transformationsExceptional project management capabilities, with a track record of delivering complex, cross-functional initiativesHighly analytical, strategic, and able to distil complex issues into clear, actionable insightsAdvanced Excel and data-analysis skills; familiarity with automation or AI-enabled tools is an advantage
