What You Will Do

The Real-Time Embedded Systems discipline within CDS is responsible for the foundational software layer that abstracts the hardware and manages the resources for engine control and prognostic and health management applications for P&W engines using state of the art technologies, tools & methodologies.

The Real-Time Embedded Systems discipline has an opening for an Embedded Software Engineer.

Key Responsibilities:

The Embedded Software Engineer will be part of a team responsible for architecting, designing, and testing software for the next-generation FADEC technology.

As an Embedded Software Engineer, the candidate will contribute to requirements generation, embedded software development and integration and testing of software on the target hardware, in addition to developing tools to assist with software generation and testing.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • 2 years of engineering experience, or an Advanced Degree.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Demonstrated software programming experience in C, C++, Python
  • Basic understanding on real-time embedded software concepts such as scheduling, concurrency, coherency
  • Hands-on experience with multi-core processors preferred
  • Experience with embedded systems debugging and system analysis tools (e.g. JTAG emulators, logic analyzers)
  • Experience with embedded systems development environments such as Vitis, and the GNU compiler collection (GCC)
  • Experience with embedded real-time operating systems (RTOS)
  • Experience with the Agile methodology
  • Familiarity with SPI, MIL-STD-1394, MIL-STD-1553, and/or the Ethernet communication stack
  • Familiarity with SDLC (software development life cycle)
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools like git, and understanding of automated build system workflows
  • Security Clearance is preferred; willing to obtain and maintain.  This can’t be added if there is no security clearance required.

Pratt & Whitney Controls & Diagnostic Systems (CDS) is a dynamic engineering organization focused on the development and certification of military and commercial gas turbine engine control and diagnostic systems. CDS is responsible for all aspects of Pratt & Whitney engine control and diagnostic system development and support, including requirements analysis & definition, system & software architecture, algorithm design, product software design, verification & validation and engine and flight test support.  

What is my role type?

  • In addition to transforming the future of flight, we are also transforming how and where we work. We’ve introduced role types to help you understand how you will operate in our blended work environment. This role is:

  • Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

  • Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.

The salary range for this role is 66,000 USD - 130,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
