About Us

Cambium is a growth stage start-up using technology to make it easy to access material we normally waste, turning salvaged lumber into Carbon Smart Wood™. We recently closed a $18.5M Series A funding round to make it easier to buy, sell, and move fiber across the supply chain. In addition to being named one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies of 2024, we serve clients like Amazon, Equinox, Room & Board, and other leading brands in the construction, design, and furniture industries. It’s an exciting time of growth for Cambium, and we’re looking for ambitious, energetic people to join our mission.

About This Role

As Cambium Carbon’s first Senior UI/UX Designer, you’ll play a foundational role in shaping the design culture, systems, and user experience across all of our products. You’ll lead the design of our customer-facing dashboards and portals, as well as internal tools, delivering high-fidelity, developer-ready mockups that power execution at speed. You’ll be responsible for becoming the foremost expert on the traits and habits of our customers and users. You’ll also contribute to product visioning, marketing storytelling, and fundraising initiatives—operating across near-term needs and long-term strategy. This role is ideal for a highly collaborative, detail-oriented designer who can create beautiful, accessible, and scalable design systems while also helping Cambium build empathy for a diverse and often non-technical user base.

What You’ll Do Here

  • Own the UI/UX design of Cambium’s web applications—including customer dashboards, portals, and internal tools—ensuring each experience is elegant, intuitive, and scalable.
  • Deliver high-fidelity, developer-ready mockups and flows, annotated with states, interactions, and logic to enable smooth handoffs and efficient frontend implementation.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, PMs, and customers to define requirements, prototype solutions, and refine implementation through QA and polish passes.
  • Lead and execute user research and usability testing efforts in partnership with Product, ensuring we are designing for real user needs across a wide range of technical literacy.
  • Build and maintain Cambium’s design system and UI component standards, driving consistency and accessibility across all user touchpoints.
  • Partner with Marketing, BizOps, and Sales to support storytelling through design—contributing visuals, diagrams, and UX concepts for strategic initiatives, fundraising, and go-to-market efforts.
  • Influence product strategy and long-term UX direction, offering new paradigms and concepts that stretch how Cambium delivers value to users.
  • Independently build strong relationships with Cambium's customers across the supply chain, such that these users can consistently be leveraged in an advisory capacity during sprints.
  • Help establish and evolve design best practices inside the company, from how we give feedback to how we scale a design team over time.

Your Skill Sets and Capabilities Include

  • 6+ years of experience designing complex web-based software interfaces, ideally at early-stage or Series A startups.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce pixel-perfect, developer-ready mockups and UI specs using modern design tools (e.g., Figma).
  • Strong UX instincts and interaction design skills.
  • Proven experience conducting user research, usability tests, and user interviews, with the ability to synthesize insights into actionable design improvements.
  • Deep experience working with engineers to ship production UI, including support for frontend QA and polish.
  • Ability to design for diverse user profiles, ranging from highly technical to non-technical field operators.
  • Experience building and maintaining design systems in fast-moving product environments.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills—you bring clarity and confidence to ambiguous situations, and advocate for users in every conversation.
  • Bonus experience: storytelling and visual design for marketing or fundraising, sustainable products, or supply chain/logistics tools.
