Jobs for the Future (JFF) drives transformation in the American workforce and education systems to achieve equitable economic advancement for all.  

 

Program Details 

JFF is deeply committed to providing access to enriching work-based learning experiences through its 2023 Internship Program. The summer internship program will provide a cohort of highly motivated interns with an opportunity to contribute to JFF’s work, develop valuable skills, and work in an equity-centered, innovative, and mission-driven environment. Over the course of the program, interns will gain exposure to JFF’s bold, transformative programs and operations. They will work under the guidance of team members on high-impact projects in specific JFF departments. 

Interns will receive a thorough onboarding to JFF’s culture and programmatic areas, participate in workshops to build critical leadership and professional skills, and take part in additional events for professional development and networking opportunities. They will also be paired with a JFF mentors who will support their internship experiences. At the end of the experience, the interns will present summaries of their projects to members of the JFF community, sharing reflections on the impact of the initiatives they worked on and discussing what they learned during the internship program.   

Interested applicants must be available full-time (32 to 40 hours per week), Monday through Friday, for 11 weeks, beginning Tuesday, May 30th and ending Friday, August 11th. Interns will work remotely for the summer of 2023, and they must have internet access at their chosen place of work. JFF may provide a company-owned laptop for the duration of the internship program if needed. 

 

Summer Internship Positions  

Below are overviews of each open internship position, followed by application instructions. We look forward to hearing from you!

Advancement: Call to Action Antiracist Campus Policing 

The intern will be a key member for a few workstreams JFF has with the California Community College system. The intern will support the team’s agenda setting, research, note taking, facilitation, and may contribute to publications that advance the strategic communications of the workstreams. The intern will also support the production of meeting materials for Institute meetings, such as run-of-show, briefings, and summary notes. This role also includes the chance to develop internet-based research skills, experience in deliverable creation, and opportunities in presentation and facilitation. The ideal candidate for this role is open and interested in contributing to external publications and has strong writing and research skills. 

Center for Justice and Economic Advancement (2 openings) 

The interns will play an integral part in supporting multiple workstreams for the Center for Justice and Economic Advancement (CJEA): technical assistance, policy and systems change, research, and advocacy and awareness.  The interns will support in a variety of ways including but not limited to project management, narrative change and adoption, and research and data analysis. The interns will also contribute to CJEA’s convening and event coordination and development, work cross-collaboratively throughout JFF, and be a part of a dedicated team focused on justice-oriented work. The ideal candidate for this role is deeply committed and invested in justice-oriented work and is skilled in research, analysis, and synthesizing & managing data. 

Center for Racial Economic Equity 

The intern will play an integral role in one or two ongoing racial economic equity initiatives across the organization. The intern will support the Racial Economic Equity team, JFFLabs, and the Research team to conduct research on employer supported wrap-around supports for Black workers in high-wage careers as well as research to collect existing best practices, support meeting planning, take notes and share takeaways, and contribute to writing blog posts and a final report documenting the research process and recommendations. The intern will also support planning for a convening of JFF’s nascent Racial Economic Equity network to take place in fall 2023. This will include planning coordination with the JFF Events and Marketing and Communications team and external partners. This role is a great opportunity for someone with synthesis and verbal communication skills, and has previous experience with professional writing, research, and event planning. 

Field Implementation: Community of Practice 

The intern will be a contributing member in supporting the Ready to Work San Antonio (RTW) Community of Practice (CoP), an education and training program to help thousands of San Antonians improve their quality of life by developing skills needed to get in-demand jobs with family-sustaining wages. The intern will help execute quarterly community of practices virtual events, including scheduling, developing content, day-of-event support and updating the Community of Practice website. In addition, the intern will conduct interviews, compile research, and contribute to authoring a report on how San Antonio’s workforce ecosystem has achieved system changes through Ready to Work. This is an ideal role for someone who has experience synthesizing ideas in writing to an external audience and is interested in learning more about local workforce systems and education/training models. 

Knowledge Management 

The Knowledge Management intern will support activities that contribute to JFF staff capturing, sharing and acting on knowledge.  The intern will learn how information flows throughout an organization and the mechanisms needed to support that. They will support the identification, collection, and dissemination of information that should be made available for reuse by projects across the organization. They will work on projects such as synthesizing and disseminating recommendations from the project debriefs, compiling highly requested information in easily accessible ways, and supporting the development of guidance and process documentation. This is a great opportunity for someone who loves slicing and dicing information and finding ways to be more efficient. 

Labs: Insights 

The intern will support the Labs - Insights team’s core functions by providing research and analysis to support the capacity building projects for Market Intelligence and Rapid Insights. The intern’s work will contribute to the establishment of our proprietary insights data systems through cataloging and indexing existing data and making recommendations for data synthesis. The intern will also have an opportunity to influence content strategy through researching how Gen Z/Alpha and decision makers consume information and provide recommendations for building and distributing the survey/platform. This is an ideal role for an intern interested in using/developing their skills in data analysis and mapping, marketing strategy/analysis, and presenting and storytelling.    

Labs: JFF Ventures 

JFF Ventures invests in companies that harness the power of technology and entrepreneurship to improve economic opportunity and mobility for workers. The intern will have an opportunity to gain valuable exposure to impact investing and become embedded in the work of a small team. Core responsibilities for the intern will include supporting sourcing and due diligence on investment opportunities and contributing to independent research projects to inform fund strategy. This role is ideal for someone who believes in the power of innovation and investment to create impact, has a deeply held desire to serve others, and wants to contribute to a high-impact fund. 

Learning: Student Success Center Network 

The intern will support the development and launch of an equity-minded practices database for the Student Success Center Network (SSCN). The database will be populated collaboratively with staff at each of the seventeen (17) Student Success Centers. The intern will support data entry to ensure information adheres to standards/norms and will help refine processes for engaging Centers in utilization of the database. The intern will also support end users (Centers). At the conclusion of the internship, the intern will prepare a brief memo to communicate data trends and usage patterns. This is a great opportunity for a creative problem-solver who is interested in higher education and equity-minded practices.   

Marketing and Communications: Digital 

The intern will support the Marcomm Digital team with the production of assets for publishing on websites, email, and social media. This includes the design and creation of content, the layout and design of web pages, the administration of content on new web pages, and assessment of the performance of web pages. The intern will also assist with website troubleshooting, bug fixing and error tracking, and can expect collaboration with the email and social media team on content production, implementation, and performance. This role also includes the opportunity to produce performance metrics, assemble those metrics in reports and consult on those metrics in presentations to the team. Previous experience with design and content for web, email and social are preferred, including HTML, graphics and image editing, and MS PowerPoint. 

Marketing and Communications: Editorial 

The editorial intern will assist the Marketing and Communications team with developing digital marketing content, including emails, newsletters, and web copy. The intern will also edit and proofread other types of JFF content, including blogs, and partner with editors to assist with longer-form reports. This role will give the individual an opportunity to learn various professional editorial skills, including proofreading, editing, fact-checking, and copywriting. The intern will also have an opportunity to gain experience using various types of software, including apps in the Microsoft Office suite, a project management platform, and a website CMS (content management system). 

Marketing and Communications: Graphic Design 

The intern will play an important role in supporting the Marcomm Design team with the production of assets for internal program clients and JFF’s corporate marketing initiatives. The intern will help design and create social cards and email graphics, format Word documents, order business cards, and source stock photography. The intern will have an opportunity to collaborate with the email and social media team on content production, implementation, and performance. Previous experience with design and content for email and social are preferred, including graphics and image editing (Adobe Creative Suite software) and Microsoft products. 

People & Culture: Employee Experience and Engagement 

JFF’s People & Culture team is responsible for HR administration, Talent Acquisition (TA), and Employee Experience and Engagement among other things. While being exposed to many aspects of the People & Culture function, the intern will support the employee experience and engagement work. The intern will help design and organize employee engagement activities & events and plan the biannual virtual all staff meeting. There will be opportunities to contribute to aspects of onboarding, affinity groups, and employee listening. This role is ideal for someone with an interest in well-being, belonging & recognition, and employee engagement within the workforce. 

Research and Analytics 

The intern will contribute to the Research and Analytics team’s ongoing research and evaluation projects.  One major contribution will be towards  the evaluation of a national US Department of Labor-funded project that aims to expand access to careers in Information Technology for populations who have not previously had broad access to these opportunities.  The intern will have opportunities to conduct topical research, develop a literature review, and/or explore federal and state longitudinal databases to explore questions of interest to our work. The internship will provide an opportunity to observe and engage in applied research and evaluation activities and will culminate in a final product such as a brief or a presentation.
