Jefferson Community Health & Life is looking for a staff pharmacist to work PRN as needed to fill in the pharmacy.

POSITION SUMMARY: Provides professional pharmaceutical care on an as-needed (PRN) basis to ensure safe, accurate, and cost-effective medication therapy. The Pharmacist – PRN supports the Pharmacy Department by filling in during absences, high-volume periods, or as otherwise scheduled to maintain continuous, high-quality patient care and customer service.  

QUALIFICATIONS:   

  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS or PharmD degree.
  • Current and unrestricted license to practice as a pharmacist in the State of Nebraska.
  • No drug-related misdemeanors or felonies on record.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily complete the Sterile Product Preparation Examination within 90 days of employment and recertify annually.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
  • Previous hospital or clinical pharmacy experience preferred.

Prescription Processing and Dispensing

  • Interpret and process medication orders accurately and promptly.
  • Compound and dispense pharmaceuticals, including sterile products, per established standards.
  • Issue controlled substances to patient care areas and maintain all required records.
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of work performed by pharmacy technicians.

Clinical Pharmacy Services

  • Ensure safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication therapy.
  • Monitor drug regimens for contraindications, interactions, allergies, and therapeutic duplications.
  • Assist with pharmacokinetics and drug dosing per organizational protocols.
  • Review culture and susceptibility reports for antibiotic appropriateness and make recommendations as needed.
  • Identify and report adverse drug reactions and medication errors in accordance with policy.
  • Provide consultation and clarification to practitioners on appropriate medication use.
  • Provide drug education and counseling to patients, families, and staff when indicated.
  • Document all interventions and consultations accurately.

Department Operations

  • Support the daily operations of the Pharmacy Department to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Assist in completing inspections of medication storage areas and maintaining compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • Keep work areas and equipment clean, organized, and safe.
  • Serve as a professional resource to pharmacy staff and other departments as needed.

Competency and Compliance

  • Maintain current Nebraska pharmacist licensure and required certifications.
  • Adhere to all JCH&L, federal, and state pharmacy regulations, including controlled substance laws.
  • Attends pharmacy staff meetings
  • Attends orientation, education, and training programs.   Reviews literature and other materials pertinent to the practice of pharmacy.
  • Completes all competence/skills assessment requirements and passes all tests and quizzes given
  • Follow JCH&L policies, Service Excellence Standards, Safety and Infection Control practices, and the Compliance Program
