The Building Plans Reviewer reviews building plans of new and existing structures for compliance with applicable building trades, related codes, and ordinances. This position provides technical interpretation of codes and regulations as needed. The Building Plans Reviewer prepares and maintains all required documentation and performs related work as needed.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact with coworkers, contractors, property owners, and the public with tact and courtesy, are essential for success in this position.
Brunswick County Code Administration utilizes a career ladder and certification incentive program for advancement which allows employees to further their career in the inspections field as certifications are attained.
Compensation is based on standard certifications held and experience in inspections. Position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime.
Technical school diploma supplemented by one to seven years of experience in building inspection and plan review; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds). Tasks may require traversing uneven terrain, entering confined spaces and/or climbing ladders during field inspections.
