Summit County, located in Utah, is seeking applicants for full-time Animal Control Officer I to help with the enforcement of local animal control laws and ordinances. Essential functions include but are not limited to, patrolling the county for unlicensed dogs, apprehending and removing to the animal shelter. Removing dead or injured animals from county streets, investigating animal abuse or cruelty complaints, issuing citations for violation of ordinances, and giving testimony in court as required. Having a working knowledge of local animal control ordinances, geography, and basic animal care, procedures, and cautions is valued. Proper kennel cleaning methods, first aid, nutrition, and care practices related to cats and dogs is essential, along with office practices, procedures, and record keeping. Works under the general supervision of the Field Supervisor or Director. We are a drug free workplace conducting drug testing. QUALIFICATIONS 

• High school graduation or equivalent
• Valid UT driver's license
• Able to lift 60 pounds regularly
• Willing to be called out on a 24-hour basis
• NACA I certification within 1 year of hire date

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

• Patrols county; observes for unlicensed dogs and apprehends the same; removes dogs to animal shelter for impoundment until ownership can be determined; utilizes specialized equipment such as "catch-all poles" and tranquilizer guns and serums; picks up strays and delivers to shelter compound; investigates animal abuse or cruelty complaints; issues citations for violation of various ordinances; gives testimony in court as required.
•  Investigates citizen complaints concerning ordinance violations through field investigations. 
• Delivers public education programs as needed to inform public of local ordinances and problems; attends meetings at local schools to educate children regarding animal control ordinances. 
• Assists veterinarians with rabies clinics; follows specific procedures for dog-bite cases and other animal bites; quarantines dogs guilty of biting to observe for rabies and other diseases; makes court appearances as necessary. 
• Responds to citizen complaints; answers questions and inquiries via phone and radio. Provides information to the public by responding to telephone calls and assisting walk-in public; provides factual information as directed by supervisors. Receives and processes complaints; apprizes animal control officers of complaints and provides pertinent details essential for response and action. 
• Places incoming animals in kennels an retrieves outgoing animals; provides general assistance to the public, assists in locating lost and found animals; assists public in adoption processes. 
• Must perform as a creditable witness in a court of law. 
• Performs related duties as required.
