POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Regional Manufacturing Manager, this position is responsible for all quality assurance related laboratory work and process analysis. This position requires a working relationship with the sales staff in the development of new products, color matching, and project specification reviews, as well as the production team in the refinement of manufacturing processes. Leads the QA lab tech dept. Is responsible for supporting and demonstrating the Core Values of Integrity, Safety, Respect, Customer Focus, Quality, Innovation and Financial Success. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: General

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

· Tests and inspects raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods to ensure they meet established standards for quality.

· Reports changes in strength, raw materials, and finished product quality to management.

· Reports all product exceptions as per non-conforming materials procedures.

· Maintain quality corrective action plan

· Document laboratory test results and maintain database. Monitors process and document changes as required.

· Conducts monthly audits to ensure accuracy.

· Leads the QA Lab Tech department and assists with the performance of their daily activities.

· Oversee and review results of all production trials.

· Stay abreast of changes with ASTM specifications and other appropriate agency specifications as they pertain to Concrete Products. Understanding of those specifications a must.

· Develop and implement comprehensive Laboratory Technician training programs that include CMHA certified testing procedures and quality inspection methods.

· Manage concrete mix designs that are suitable for production efficiency, cost effectiveness, specification conformance and accuracy to the Bill of Materials

· Understand color application, matching and theory.

· Learn and become versed on Basalite’s product descriptions and overall concrete technology.

· Learn mold designs and run-ability characteristics of the production equipment.

· Evaluate all production processes and develop written documentation for each production area in the plant, which will include training and safety programs for each piece of equipment.

· Attend safety meetings and abides by all safety rules set forth by Basalite and governmental regulatory agencies. Ensure that hazardous conditions are reported and corrected.

· All other duties and responsibilities assigned from time to time by the company or it’s designated representatives.

· Predictable and Regular attendance is required. Must be able to work overtime and weekends as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

· College education or a degree in Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Quality Assurance or equivalent experience is preferred, but not required.

· ACI certification or equivalent designation for the mastery of the body of knowledge for material testing is preferred

· 3+ years of related experience in manufacturing environment is required

· Must participate in continuing education and industry certifications from ACI and/or CMHA or other professional development.

· Experience in concrete product and aggregate related laboratory testing is desirable. Management skills are also desirable.

· Must possess excellent computer and mathematical skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

· Familiarity with color dispensing equipment and its operation, including calibration and set-up a plus.

· Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at al levels within the organization (sales, manufacturing, management)

· Knowledge of testing procedures for concrete products and aggregate, and safety requirements including employee training, documentation and reordering.

· Ability to use and operate various types of testing equipment and machines, forklifts, mixers and personal computer.

· Possess a certificate to operate forklifts

· Ability and desire to attend continuing education classes and seminars.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

 

· Standing, walking, sitting, talking/listening, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms

· Occasionally required to bend at the waist; Lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

· Lift up to 100 lbs.

· Work near moving mechanical parts, heat or cold (non-weather).

· Plant environment with loud noise, moving machinery, dusty, dirty.

SALARY EXPECTATIONS

  • $27.00 - $29.00 Hourly - Depends on Experience
