THE POSITION

Wellington is seeking a dynamic individual to lead and grow our APAC Wealth Management business to be based in Hong Kong or Singapore. This role involves setting strategy, driving implementation and managing key relationships across Greater China, South East Asia, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand.

The successful candidate will lead the distribution team, hold key relationships with intermediaries to successfully onboard new and existing investment products across Long Only and Alternatives, prioritize across the various APAC markets and partner closely with Marketing to align strategy.

We expect this individual to leverage their insights and deep wealth management experience in APAC while working closely with colleagues in our client and investment platforms. The successful candidate should have strong interpersonal skills and foster a collaborative team culture.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

The following essential skills are required for the role:

  • Business Builder The role requires this individual to think wholistically about the growth of the Wealth business across multiple unique markets in APAC and prioritize our efforts. The successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, natural leadership and collaboration, and will embody a balance of being both strategic and results oriented. They will also develop strong partnerships with marketing.

  • Commercial – The successful candidate will have a strong strategic lens to help commercialize business opportunities. They will have the gravitas to effectively communicate the Wellington platform and underlying investment strategies to gatekeepers and investors of various sophistication levels with the goal of raising and retaining capital.

  • Leadership – This individual will hire, develop and lead a team across functions and geographies. They will exhibit natural leadership qualities and will build followship and consensus across teams they don’t have direct oversight of to achieve business objectives.  Experience in influencing senior decision makers across functions to build a strong cross-functional business is desired.

  • Knowledge of and Credibility within Wealth Management– Wellington is acquiring in-depth knowledge of the APAC Wealth Management market through this hire. They should have a deep understanding of the end-to-end business, from product idea to fund development and governance to sales.  They will have proven sales results across wealth management channels and have the credibility to engage at senior levels with our clients.

  • Knowledge across asset classes, across both funds distribution and sub-advisory –This individual will be knowledgeable and have a deep understanding of product structures across both traditional and alternative investment products (privates and hedge funds) to help Wellington to continue to grow in Alternatives.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

A successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of the APAC distribution business, including Japan, China and Australia

  • Proven track record and ability to successfully build and lead a new business / channel / function

  • Strong investment acumen and interest, in both traditional long-only products and alternatives
