About the Role

On a bi-weekly basis prints and mails out Pay statements for all terminated employees as needed to ensure compliance with the BC Employment Standards Act.  Upon request, responds to requests and inquiries from all terminated employees, for copies of pay statements and/or T4's. Responds to routine e-mail and in-person general inquires related to payroll, responding directly with information regarding procedures covering issues such as deadlines, updates, etc. and refers complex or unusual problems to appropriate staff for resolution in a timely manner. Provides reception services for the department by answering general inquiries received from the payroll general email or in-person inquiry.

Qualifications

High school graduation and one year of post-secondary education or formal program equivalent including Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification through the Canadian Payroll Association. 3 years of experience. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study ad experience is acceptable.

  • 40 wpm keyboard skills with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent knowledge of the practices and principles involved in completing an annual payroll cycle.
  • Excellent knowledge of, and the ability to apply, federal and provincial legislation to payroll including: the Canada Pension Plan; the Employment Insurance Act; the Income Tax Act; Employment Standards legislation; and WorkSafe BC legislation.
  • Ability to use spreadsheet and word processing applications (e.g., Excel and Word) at an intermediate level.
  • Ability to use a computerized and automated Payroll system (e.g., PeopleSoft) at an intermediate level, for approximately 4000 active employees.
  • Ability to focus and concentrate on detail for sustained periods of time.
  • Ability to work under pressure and complete a high volume of accurate work within deadlines.
  • Ability to handle confidential material with discretion.
  • Ability to work accurately with figures.
  • Ability to identify and document efficiencies in payroll processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent analytical reasoning skills.
  • Mathematical skill of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and percentage calculations.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting procedures.

Additional Information

The assignment end date is March 31, 2026.

Priority will be given to qualified registered SFU students who must submit a Fall 2025 class schedule with their application. This is a part-time position working 56 hours biweekly. There is 1 position available.
