PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Mechanic is responsible for all repairs of Sitnasuak and all Nome based subsidiary vehicles, including fuel and propane delivery trucks and outside customer vehicles as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Diagnoses and completion of all types of vehicle repairs and preventative maintenance for Sitnasuak and subsidiaries, including, but not limited to, electronic control systems, air and hydraulic brake systems, fuel dispensing systems, and all components of both fuel and propane delivery trucks.
- Evaluate the extent of all equipment repairs and level of action required.
- Reach out to equipment manufacturers’ technicians when technical information is required to make repairs
- Understands and documents all regulatory requirements for Department of Transportation periodic vehicle safety and compliance inspections.
- Follow all established fuel handling and work safety procedures.
- Must be willing to serve on the Bonanza Fuel spill response team for both training and actual incident responses.
- Assist with maintaining equipment at Tank Farm & Bonanza Express.
- Help maintain a safe work environment and bring safety issues to the branch supervisor’s attention.
- Participate in required Company and equipment training
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- General knowledge and experience in operation and maintenance of heavy duty equipment.
- Excellent analytical, and organizational skills with the ability to evaluate data.
- Exceptional time management skills.
- In depth understanding of the basics of the repair and maintenance of both gas and diesel vehicles and equipment.
- Familiarity with hazardous waste regulations.
- Ability to be a team player.
- Good working knowledge of various personal computer business software applications presently used by the Company. Ability to learn new applications.
- Ability, knowledge, and agility necessary to complete installations and/or repairs.
- Ability to use diagnostic scanners and electronic tools.
- Ability to maintain skills as technology advances.
- Ability to provide high quality customer service.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of staff and customers.
- Effective oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate to others.
- Active listening skills; attentiveness when listening to others to understand, ask appropriate questions, etc.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to learn and understand the Company’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED (General Education Degree)
- One (1) year of technical school or college courses in the field.
- Two (2) years mechanic or small engine repair experience preferred.
- The ability to successfully complete technical vehicle repair training, with an emphasis on heavy duty diesel technology, and can document training.
- Able to pass the 40 Hour Hazardous Materials (HAZWOPER) course.
- Valid state Driver’s License and be qualified to operate a vehicle.
- Class A CDL preferred.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The majority of the work is performed in an equipment shop environment where the work is moderate to loud.
