You’ll manage and inspire three specialist teams - Finance Services, Management Accounts & Finance Business Partnering and Financial Accounting teams in order to ensure the reporting and control environment for these responsibilities is effective and efficient.
This is an opportunity to combine strategic oversight with hands-on leadership, helping to strengthen the university’s financial foundations while supporting its wider ambitions.
About the Role
- Deliver and develop
- Monthly management accounts to year end standard (I&E, Cash Flow, Balance Sheet, Capex)
- Segmental Reporting for historic and budgeted and forecast results
- Supporting commentary, variance analysis,
- Support the Finance Director to prepare budgets and forecasts including the annual 5-year financial plan together with associated sensitivity analysis and investment appraisals.
- Deliver accurate, complete and timely statutory returns (ensuring consistency across them) particularly:
- OfS Annual Financial Return
- TRAC return
- Year-end financial statements and notes to the financial statements
- Support the Finance Director to deliver an effective year end external audit cycle.
- Line manage direct reports of: Head of Finance Services (AP, AR, Student Funding), Head of Management Accounts & Finance Business Partnering and Financial Accountant (see organisation chart below).
- Oversee monthly processes and actions to ensure strong debt management process are being adhered to and support by associated analysis and reporting
- Take responsibility for the creating and maintaining a robust financial control environment.
- Ensure that appropriate financial regulations and accounting procedures are implemented and kept up to date with reference to industry standards.
About You
- Outstanding organisational and analytical skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with attention to detail in presenting financial information combined with ability to produce meaningful commentary on financial trends and performance.
- Significant expertise in budget planning and monitoring.
- Proven ability to translate technical accounting reports or information into management information to support strategic decision making.
- Extensive experience of developing reporting to communicate financial insight to business leaders and budget owners to promote financial sustainability.
- Experience of working alongside senior stakeholders to guide decisions to a financially sustainable outcome
- A financial qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or CIPFA
- Experience of successfully leading & managing direct reports
