The role of the General Hand is to complete facilities & general day to day tasks on the buildings and equipment within MRO. You will be the responsible person for ensuring the shop floor is kept clean & tidy, movement of material & equipment around the hanger at the request of stores or engineering leads, carry out machine checks (PPM’s) and general facility task.
Key Responsibilities
- To assist the MRO Team in keeping the shop floor clean, tidy, and efficient. To ensure that all HSE inspections and testing are carried out in a timely manner, all defects or faults are reported back to Line Manager.
- Assist in site security of the building.
- Replacing light bulbs and lamp fittings as and when required
- Completing ladder and trestle inspections
- Inspect the condition of asbestos and report any damage visible.
- Conducting inspection and minor repairs to company vehicles.
- Using the online systems in place to report hazards, incidents or defects to the appropriate person within a timely manner.
- Provide Status reports on current jobs
- To conduct risk assessments of a task prior to it being started, concerns are to be raised to the line Manager.
- To use PPE in the manner instructed, and to ensure it is looked after and stored correctly.
- Understanding the life of the individual PPE and not to exceed this.
- To complete any work in line with legislation and best practice as defined in guidance documents and working procedures.
- Assist the management team to ensure the site complies with HSE requirements.
- Assembled office furniture, assisting in office moves.
- Assisting with aircraft movements.
- Undertaking repairs to the site security and door access system.
- Any other task that is requested within the scope of the job role.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- 2 years previous experience in a similar maintenance/facilities role
- Strong knowledge of general repairs and maintenance across various trades
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of how to carry out general repairs related to plumbing, electrical and decorating
- Holds a full UK driving licence
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to find and resolve issues
- Being able to know the limitations of their capabilities
