The posting for Community Safety Officer position (CSO) is open to full-time (permanent) Jailers who are interested in transferring to CSO positions.
CSO's are part of the Victoria Police Department's Special Municipal Constable program. They wear distinct uniforms and provide operational assistance to front line police officers. CSO's also assist at community events and serve the public at VicPD’s front desk.
Community Safety Officer Job Description:
- Uniform position working 12-hour shifts, 4 days on 4 days off (variable times)
- Assist the public with requests and reports at the Front Desk.
- Collect and enter pertinent information into PRIME. Serve subpoenas and summons
- Assist front line officers with tasks including: CCTV collection, perimeter security at police incidents, property transport and property management
- Provide a uniform presence at public and community events
- Aid or provide relief coverage in the Jail as required

- Team player with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with our diverse community
- Resilient, patient and flexible individual, motivated to help others
- Self-starter with ability to succeed in a high stress work environment
- Have a genuine interest working with people experiencing mental health and addictions related crises
- Ability to gather and recall relevant details about an incident, and write detailed accurate reports and notes
