A successful Instructor/Coach is enthusiastic and adaptable to lead structured programs, such as the Masters Swim Club, that build skills, spark interest, and keep participants engaged and active! In this rewarding role, you’ll bring lesson plans to life—guiding individuals through fun, safe, and skill-focused activities while encouraging participation and promoting a positive experience for all. Whether you're coaching a sport or leading a specialized class, your energy, organization, and strong communication skills will help participants thrive.
Instructor/Coach I's will develop, adapt or follow detailed program plans, organize participants and monitor progress.
Instructor/Coach II's must have previous experience leading a specific activity or program and have ability to prepare a detailed seasonal program plan.
All Instructor/Coaches need:
- Acceptable Police Information Check with the Vulnerable Sector
- Current Emergency First Aid and CPR C
- Class 5 Drivers License
- NCCP Certification or related Instructor Certification for the Activity
- Knowledge of the methods used to instruct
- Working knowledge of the theory of body mechanics and movement skills
- Ability to provide instruction in a fun, safe, controlled and organized manner
- Ability to effectively communicate, instruct and demonstrate skills and techniques to a diverse range of individuals and groups of all ages and abilities
- Ability to maintain control and exercise influence with tact and diplomacy in a professional and calm manner
- Specific skills, experience and knowledge of the sport
- Experience leading activity groups with children, youth and/or adults
- Ability to understand, follow and carry out oral and written communications
- Must be able to deal tactfully and effectively with the public and co-workers
- Ability to be imaginative and flexible to ensure a fun environment for participants
- Ability to work as an effective team member
- Physical strength and ability to lift up to 25 pounds
- Stamina to occasionally stand and walk for a minimum of four hours
- Ability to maintain excellent public relations with participants
- Must have effective written and verbal communication skills
- Needs to be able to demonstrate initiative
Hourly rates:
- Instructor/Coach I: $28.01
- Instructor/Coach II: $30.95
The terms of employment are based on recreation programs and/or activity service delivery to meet community demand. Hours of work will be linked to specific programs and/or activities, the hours and availability of work are dependent on program and or activity registrations.
