Experience Design Director

About R/GA

R/GA is an independent creative innovation company built for the intelligence age. We harness the power of design and technology to create more valuable experiences for people and brands.

From reimagining interfaces with AI to launching entirely new platforms and services, we help organisations adapt to what’s next and shape what comes after. Our teams combine craft, curiosity and technology to deliver work that drives both business and human impact.

At R/GA, we don’t just respond to change — we help shape it.

The Role

This is a leadership role for a seasoned Experience Designer Director who thrives at the intersection of strategy, creativity and technology. As an XDD, you will lead multidisciplinary teams, shape high-impact work and build strong client relationships to deliver experiences that are intuitive, intelligent, and inclusive.

You’ll be responsible for representing the Experience Design discipline in the projects you own, setting the standard for craft, mentoring talent, and pushing the work into new territories. You’re not just solving today’s problems, you’re defining what experience design means in an AI-powered, constantly evolving digital world.

You’ll collaborate with senior stakeholders across design, strategy, technology, and client services to bring human-centred solutions to market, and you’ll act as both a project lead and design visionary, advocating for the user and elevating the work.

On any given day you might be

  • Lead experience design across complex, multi-platform products and services
  • Act as a strategic partner to clients, helping define their vision and guide their roadmap
  • Represent Experience Design in pitches, presentations and senior stakeholder sessions
  • Help Inspire and mentor a team of designers across projects, from concept through to execution
  • Collaborate closely with Creative, Visual Design, Technology and Strategy leadership to shape integrated work
  • Explore and evangelise the potential of AI, generative interfaces, and emerging interaction models
  • Use generative tools to prototype, validate and iterate on ideas at speed
  • Champion inclusive design practices and accessible, human-first experiences
  • Build and evolve scalable design systems and frameworks
  • Help shape R/GA’s design culture, standards, and future capabilities

You’d be the right fit if you

  • Are a confident design leader with a strong point of view and a collaborative mindset
  • Know how to influence and inspire both internal teams and client stakeholders
  • Have a proven ability to guide the design vision of a project from start to finish
  • Understand how to create experiences that deliver both human impact and business value
  • Think beyond screens considering how digital, physical and multimodal touchpoints come together in a cohesive experience
  • Balance big-picture thinking with exceptional attention to detail
  • See AI and emerging technologies as creative collaborators, not just tools
  • Are deeply curious about people, problems and possibilities, bringing experience strategy into how you frame solutions
  • Can translate complexity into clarity for users, teams and clients alike
  • Thrive in an agile, fast-moving, idea-rich environment
  • Are passionate about mentoring and developing others
  • Believe great design is a team sport, and diversity of thought is key

You bring

  • 7+ years of experience in UX, product, service or interaction design, with at least 2 years in a senior or leadership role
  • A portfolio that demonstrates strategic thinking, creative excellence and real-world impact
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills both in-person and remotely
  • Experience leading teams and guiding clients through complex design challenges
  • Fluency with tools like Figma, Miro, and collaborative workflows
  • Hands-on experience with AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Midjourney, Runway, ElevenLabs) and a clear POV on their role in the design process
  • Deep knowledge of design systems, interaction design principles, and inclusive design best practices
  • A desire to shape what’s next for experience design at R/GA and in the industry at large
  • This role will require someone who is comfortable with travel

Diversity

Everyone is welcome at R/GA, and we are committed to empowering our talent to bring their authentic self to work. If you have any requests or requirements to support you throughout the interview process, please let us know.
