General Purpose of Job:
The RN Perianesthesia - Day Sugery/PACU is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a select group of patients/families for a designated time frame and provides care to these patients during admission, Phase 1 and Phase 2 anesthesia up to and including transfer/discharge.
Education and/or Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
- Current RN license in the State of Texas.
- Previous Pediatric PACU and/or Sedation experience preferred.
- Previous Pediatric Critical Care experience preferred.
Education and/or Experience:
- BLS required before hire and continuously maintained ongoing.
- PALS and ACLS upon hire preferred, within one year if not current.
- National Certification in specialty must be attempted upon qualification to sit for exam. (Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse - CPAN, Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse - CAPA).

- The peri-anesthesia team must advocate for the special needs of the pediatric patient using ape appropriate assessment and intervention to ensure that the peri-anesthesia experience is optimized throughout the continuum of care.
- A commitment to patient and family centered care is necessary. This includes involving the family in all phases of the peri-anesthesia experience from preadmission through discharge.
- Will aid in the development of an individualized peri-anesthesia care plan for the patient.
- Performs patient assessments in accordance with procedure(s) being performed.
- Reacts to changing conditions of patient in an efficient and timely manner.
- Administers and documents medication under the direct order of a physician.
- Participates in process improvement activities.
- Attends mandatory in-services as well as unit staff meetings.
- Maintains a sense of professionalism/self validation.
- Participates in teaching others/self development.
- Participates in unit/personal goal attainments.
- Participates and fulfills her/his role in quality improvement/standards/problem solving/decision making.
