Job Description

Western Nevada College is recruiting for an Administrative Assistant 3 for the Workforce, Career and Technical Education Department (WCTE). This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. The ideal candidate will act as a liaison for WCTE programs and the division, interpreting and accurately explaining program activities, course requirements, compliance, operations and program information on behalf of the division and the college.

This position will coordinate the schedule for facilities, testing, clinicals, ride-alongs, field experiences, internships, etc., to minimize conflicts and provide adequate opportunities for students to complete course requirements. This position directs and supervises teaching assistants, student workers and lab staff to ensure they are in the appropriate classes with the appropriate preparation.

Other duties include maintaining accurate equipment inventory, appropriate tagging, repair/replacement schedules and supervision of service.  At the direction of program Coordinators, communicate with external vendors to negotiate pricing for new equipment, upgrades, on-site training, maintenance and technical support. Interpret and apply agency, federal and state policies, rules, regulations and laws to ensure compliance with fire, safety, health and/or security standards; perform complex purchasing duties independently; make final decisions regarding the purchase of items within the restrictions of grant guidelines, institution/system regulations, and terms of contracts.

Required Qualifications

  • This position requires graduation from high school or equivalent education and three (3) years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintenance of complex records and files; public/customer relations including explaining detailed policies, regulations and requirements; preparation and processing of financial and statistical documents such as payroll, travel, claims and budgeting forms; and assisting staff and management with projects and activities; OR

  • One (1) year of experience as an Administrative Assistant II in Nevada State service; OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organization needs.

Compensation Grade

Grade 27

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate’s qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
